Fuel tank padding

I've purchased a new fuel tank for the nova, the old tank has three pieces of rubber/ bitumen padding that's cussions the tank from the body.

Why have people used to replace this on a new tank?

Sound deadening pads are the same

Just replaced my tank on the rallycar, I used some thick single sided sticky foam tape I got off ebay.
