hi,
my tires rub against the arch on the outside. i was wandering whether if i carefully grinded the lip of the arch away that would be ok? and paint it so stop it rusting?

cutting off the lip which is rubbing your tyres would for sure stop it rubbing on the tyres.

do you mean rubs against the arches on the inside?

If you are lucky enough to have a nova with the lip on the rear arch I wouldnt go cutting it off.

The best option is to get wheels/ tyres that fit

It rubs against the bodywork side of the car

then you need new wheels or wheel spacers.

wait im confused?

your wheel is rubbing against outside lip on the bodywork side of the car so you want to grind away the wheel arch lip.

i think you have your wheels on upside down.

people always blame the arches for rubbing the wheels and want to chop them off.

I say the arches were there first and you should grind the new wheels to fit.

What offset wheels, sounds like they don't even fit inside the arch!

Roll them not grind them or they might rot away lol

Use the right offset then no roll or grind

the edge on the tire that points out away from the car rubs on the arch.

Raise the car a bit, or get lower profile tires, don't bother rolling the arches if they're in good condition, not really worth it in the long run. Just save some pennies and do it right.

Mine are rolled flat and sealed, mine haven't rotted. If dont do it right then you wont have a prob.

Really? which factory Nova wheel looks good? They are all sh*te. (3spoke ones if your building a proper 100% standard car maybe)

The chances of finding someone that will do a good job is slim and will probably take a few years to find out that it wasnt a good job. The problem is that the paint will crack along the fold when you fold it round. unless you are planning on respraying the rear arches then its a waste of time. if the paint hasnt cracked then the chances are water will find its way in to the inside folded edge. It also makes the arch weaker as you dont have the 90 deg lip giving it strength although Its not a big deal really.

If you think rolling the arches is the proper/way to do it as opposed to cutting them you are wrong. The problem with cutting them is that you end up cutting all the spot welds off and the inner and outer arch seperate, drawing in moisture. When I replaced my arches I kept the spot welds as close to the outer edge as possible so I could trim back as much as possible . I still left a minnimum of 6mm of lip all the way along to keep some strength.

If you want to do it right, IMO get wheels that fit.

Warming the lips will stop the paint cracking, the touch up as needed/if needed.
Yes alot of people dont do it right, but thats why we are here, to help.

Mine have been done about 6 years.

Oh and no wheels fit bar Nova wheels... Even other vauxhall wheels.

The only bit on my arches that hasn't started to rot is the bit that's been cut back! I need to run 195 tyres, and I doubt they'll work with non rolled arches running et49 MO5s
