Found this doing the rounds on faceache.

I'm not sure.
Discuss.
I remember driving to Sheffield years ago going along 'snake pass'... Came to a little town/village and their cameras were painted the same green as this, an positioned almost directly in bushes.

But I swear speed cameras have to be brightly coloured and that's the law... If the law had changed then surely word would spread. I know they wouldn't shout about it but word would still spread...

this was many years ago.... possibly before the law of having to make them visable.

very true... 8 years driving.... 8 years clean license :thumb:
Don't suppose anyone knows how many are actually turned on in Norwich..? i've got to be really careful as already got 7 points, i've seen over 40 cop cars around here in the past week. Some sitting in bushes doing speed checks, some camera vans ( do they constantly check speeds or not ) and loads driving about pulling people. I got pulled by a police biker the other day for doing nothing wrong! they're everywhere ahhh its horrible.
i have to repeat what brains said on that 1 buddy..... stick to the limit and no need to worry. they can pull you all they like, if you've done nothing wrong, nothing to worry about.
I read about these in the paper ages back. They definitley exist.
County Durham FTW.
glad i live in Somerset, zero cameras turned on

We, along with Swindon (iirc) have never had fixed cameras.
Tyne & Wear, that's another story - and I live bang in between.

Could still have the lenses spray painted over though, as happens with a lot of the Gatso cameras

^^^ i 'know' a few people that filled 3 litre coke bottles up with fertilizer and petrol, strapped them to a certain camera and boom lol

So you are telling me that you stick to the speed limit 100% of the time no matter what? I find that very hard to believe.
I brought this up to discuss the merits of this camera being legit or not... Not to discuss whether one should/shouldn't speed. Driving skills/habits on this topic are irrelevant...
Nothing legally wrong with a camera like that. The only regulations which determine usage/operation/placement etc are the ACPO guidelines - which are guidelines, not law.
david blunket, the former home secretary passed regulations that made them put hi-viz reflective panels on them because they had been sold to parliament as a safety device, not a sneaky cash raising device.. he is one labour politician that i have respect for. there aren't many others i have respect for.....
Most cameras are in built up areas, where we shouldn't speed. I've never seen one out in the middle of not where...
Don't speed in town or such.
there are 2 at an offset crossroads junction of 2 A roads near us.. this junction was fine for decades, until some cops in a demonstrator range rover decided to go full chat thru it on the way to a minor call..... the poor old couple in a micra who were quite legally turning right got killed..the cops didn't. when they were re shaping the junction in a kneejerk reaction to it, a german van driver in a lh drive sprinter forgot the brits look the other way & tboned himself on a safeway wagon... game over...
so there are 2 50mph cameras on the approach to the junction, and now everyone drives at that speed & anyone crossing struggles to get out of the side roads... whereas they used to drive at different speeds & gaps would form....
also we had one in hinckley near the local college... one night it completely disappeared. i think i know who did it, but i daren't ask him....lol lol
