right..... i had quite a big shoulder op 4 weeks ago, and im struggling to cope with the pain (esspecialy at night where i have to sit up for 5 mins every hour). I've tried dihydracoedine and tramadol but neither seem to shift it completely.... any sugestions?

bottle of whiskys the best pain killer ive come across.
sometimes it just aint enough tho, even combined with other ingredients

you might think it sounds stupid, but you should try some breathing techniques for 5 mins before bed. it can relax your muscles and ease some tension pain. can be effective

Erm, go and see your GP...

i've been to see my GP (dont really get on with them[im moving GP]) and he treats me like im stupid claiming that tramadol is all he can give me. im going to see the surgeon again next week and thought if anyone could recomend anything then i would suggest it to him. as far as breathing exercises go, it does kind of work but i have to do it every hour or so.... i got 3.5 hours kip last night

Thats because tramadol pretty much IS all he can give you - thank the teen ASWs who try and OD on anything stronger for that restriction lol

If you're in that much pain after this length of time, something clearly isn't right so the surgeon is the person to see.

tramadol is a relatively weak painkiller in comparison to some. its bareable in the day but at night is horrid, like toothache from my ear to my elbow. It was quite a big op and ive been told i may experience problems at night for up to 6 months

My partner had a op on her back 6 weeks ago (spinal correction due to scolosis) and when she was discharged she was given liquid morphine, slow release morphine & paracetamol..
she went back into hospital 2 weeks ago with internal bleeding due to being on such a strong dose of painkillers and now can only take paracetamol even tho at night she's in "excruciating" pain.

04-04-13, 12:23 PM
oooooooh ouch, maybe i'll stick to my breathing lol

Stuart

Why dont you get on with the GP?

conad
04-04-13, 12:48 PM
its a looooooong story. broke my collar bone in 2008, went to docs 11 times in the next year to say it just wasnt right (he claimed nothing was wrong with me), i was recomended a shoulder specialist by a work mate so refused to leave the docs surgery unless he sent me there.... 3 weeks later i was having an op.

Then last march i tore my rotator cuff, things didnt seem right (again) so i asked to be refered to the same shoulder specialist. i went back and to to the docs over the next 9 months asking what was happening and asking why i hadnt heard from this surgeon, i was abruptly told there was nothing more he can do and had a referal letter shoved in my face. so i contacted the specialist myself (real nice guy) to which i was told the hadnt even heard off my doctor and that some of my recent notes were missing! that was begining of jan and its now been operated on!

so THAT.... is why i dont get on with my GP

conad
04-04-13, 12:50 PM
and ive been told that due to his lack of competence in refering me, its caused more damage.

Stuart

Only the one doc in the GP? I've never seen the same doc twice at my GP lol

conad
04-04-13, 12:58 PM
theres 4 of them, but they're as thick as thieves! and take today for example:-

ME: ring ring ring
DOCS: hello
ME: oh hi, i had an operation 4 weeks ago and i've run out of painkillers
DOCS: is it urgent?
ME: well its not life threatening (light heartedly joking)
DOCS: well your looking at just over a week

..... A FECKING WEEK!!!

Note you were talking to a silly receptionist who thinks they are some sort of super healer.
Is there not a walk in clinic near you that you can just goto and bypass the surgery completely

go easy on those badboys coned. I hammered a lot of painkillers a while back, and it started to **** my organs up.
I don't take anything anymore, its all only a temporary fix anyway

to be fair I was massively overdosing on them, but you have to if you want the pain to go away.

.... like toothache from my ear to my elbow...
i would deffinately see a doctor about that.

have you tried hurting another part of your body to take your mind off your shoulder?

Normally the natural high of repairing a Nova gives me all the orgasmic pain relief a man could ever want (or indeed handle)

Nasty business pie! Car accident?

My mates leg looked a bit like that, more pins though. After he decided to drive his Charade GTTi up a tree.

I have quite a strong stomach with surgery and the like, but when he shifted weight in bed, and one of the pins seemed to move and exposed more goo, I felt sick.

The leg ended up being amputated a few weeks later.

Lucky lad then! Sounds a nasty smash mate.

What I don't get with my mate, was they pinned it, took skin grafts from his other leg, then amputated it anyway.

He hit an uncovered drain on a dual carrigeway which was down to 40mph for loose road surface, ground down the central reservation, over both lanes, up a kerb, flattened a huge hexaganol lamppost and then up the embankment until he was stopped by a tree.

The car was a shocking mess. Apparently he was screaming "Why me?!" He also claims to have been travelling no faster than 30 mph, yet there are many people who say he overtook them at the top of third gear, so 90 ish.

I was due to be picked up by him around the time it happened too.

He got a lap dance from the engine. I can't think why he didn't want to buy the car back if possible...

Leg's gone, yeah. What joke am I missing?

Speaking of crap jokes, he prefers an angel or star at the top of his christmas tree, not a small Japanese hatch. lol

Good stuff. :thumb:

Aye, was a bad one, but he thought he was Ayrton Senna cos he sed to go-kart, and even now he's still a dick in cars.

I was out with him in the Charade once, me driving, having some fun with an Impreza on the A19 and when I was done, I said "What's that noise mate?"

"Oh yeah. That's my loose caliper bolts."

Cheers(!)

Oh yeah, sorry OP. meritlover, NP. As you know, you're a hard one to figure out at times. ;)

That's nasty, pie! Unbelted rear seat passenger did that to the seat I assume?
The footwell area doesn't look too damaged from what I can see. Was it? Did you have your belt on?

I understand if yo don't wanna talk about it btw. :thumb:

I have seen the aftermath from a ZR that went through a rondabout and noone had seatbelts on. The driver wasn't wearing his glasses. :/
I mean I have seen the car. Not a lot left!

My sister-in-law has suffered loads over the last 7-8 years with her back. She's on all sorts of painkillers, nerve blockers, etc. I've had a back problem recently and was given Tramadol which wasn't helping me too much at its worst. She told me that a doctor advised her a while back that if you take Paracetamol with the Tramadol it makes the Tramadol more potent and gives better relief. I never tried it myself as my back improved, up to you whether you think it worth a go....
