I stripped it yesterday, removing the bumpers was great, the tow hooks just came straight of what was once a chasis leg, I removed both by just pulling.
The bit of sill is where I accidently leaned on it and the front crossmember and bottom of chassis doesn't seem to exist. It is the same story all over. Would you believe it's a mk2?
Here it is in 2006

Bit of T cut!, it will be fine
Is it true that mk2's are made of even shiitter metal than mk1's then? lol
It had new sills and arches in 2004, but there was signs of structural rust even then and at that point a Nova without an MOT was worth £20. However, it has been good as I now have all the stuff I stripped from it and in 2006 when it came off the road I bent a valve in my 84 swing so took the head off this car. The block and box are still sitting in it but I don't think I'll bother removing them as I already have a spare 1.0 engine and box that's complete. I'll see if I can be bothered but it's more rubbish to store and with having stripped two this year, things are a bit of a squeeze.
I was going to take things like the fuel tank and bonnet etc, but you can put your finger through them (or if your a pervert, something else lol)

Yes, my 1984 swing spent three years sitting on grass at my dad's house. Ten years later it's stll on the road....
There is no primer etc inside the chassis legs/sills/arches/doors etc of the mk2s so therefore.

I had heard it mentioned before but didn't know if it was true, but looking at that...

I've seen fords in a worse state than that be saved
Y reg to C reges where made in the uk iirc and from better metal, hence lasting longer. the rest where made in spain from cheap metal and rust all the same.... Fast.

ive noticed this looking at both of my novas just things like the engine mounts in my hatch look like its a thicker metal than in my saloon
That might be. I thought it was only better quality metal tho...

lol Nice.
I rebuilt my mk1 XR2. It needed absolutley everything. Actually, the roof was OK (non-factory sunroof thank fcuk)
My RS1600i has a factory sunroof, and has had sills about 9 years back. Stupid drainage tube design!

Everything needed doing to that car, i still have the zetec lump i bought for it sitting in my garage, that's about all of it though everything else has rusted away lol .
well even the roof on this car has rust spots on the outside and inside.
My dad said he has a mate who he will give it too as a favour for the metal, I asked him if he liked his friend as there is no metal left on it!
I think that even if it was a sport, it would have to be reshelled
Pfft i could restore my sr with that!

be perfect for the summer then lol
the doors are originally from my swing, when it was on the road ten years ago, the bottoms of the doors were fibre glassed on, guess what happened one day when I slammed one?
Anyway, do i win rustiest Nova prize?
If not I'll keep t for another three years as it is lol there will just be a bit of the roof left by then!

It shut with a satisfying Germanic 'whump' and all was well with the world?

The bottom half fell off on the ground, picked it up, put it in the boot and drove home with some air. Realised I might need new doors!

About 9 years ago.when I filled in a number plate recess to smooth a front bumper, it started cracking and then fell oit.
Was just a huge 2" deep wob of fibreglass. lol

If its been on fire then it doesn't count as most is surface rust lol
yeah, that one still has crossmember/chassis etc. YOu can see in the front pic of mine, there is no cross member at all!

Please don't cry. If you want to save it I'll sell it for a reasonable price lol

my silk violet gsi is in a similar state to yours. the strut tops have holes in them. i can no longer jack it up as the jack just ends up going through the floor/sill/chassis.
Its great for taking parts of tho as you just press your fingers round the mounts and the part you want falls off.
it was originaly from peterhead. says it all really
is the boot vented like the doors ?
yes, easy to open with no handle
