Any idea what has happened? Tried drying out the plugs, took off the air filter box and it was wet with fuel.

So is the carb broke? Bent valves?

Anyone any experience?

What is revved out when its at home?

Rev it to the redline/limiter/as high as it will go

are you getting a spark ?

crank it a bit with the plugs out, help dry the chambers if its flooded

Tried push starting it but was getting nowhere so I left it.

No it didn't blow. Just after getting reved it spluttered to a stop, started it again but would only run on 2 cylinders.

Wip the rocker cover off, you've probably snapped a follower.

At worse you've also bent valves and damaged the head.

Sounds like you have bent some valves if it started misfire after you over revved it .as my old 1.4sr did that years ago when I was on track

What's the best option from here? Do vauxhall still sell valves, stem seals etc?

burgo

They are non interference engines so shouldn't have bent a valve, most likely just drainedhthe lifters.

I hope.you see acting like a chav prick isnt big or clever now though

right. check basic stuff... remove the plugs & try to turn the engine over manually with the dizzy cap off... this will tell you if the cambelt is ok, and if there is anything hitting the pistons. you can also test the fuel pump to see if its still ok
then check the cam timing, remove the rocker cover & check the innards are not broken.

then warm up the spark plugs in your oven at home (no more than 70deg) and when they have cooled down, refit them & try to run it.

ps. i'm with burgo.... it you over rev an engine, it is neither big nor clever, and if it happened accidentally, or something stuck, always turn the key off straight away..

as for bits, most decent motor factors can still supply them. but a second hand head is usually cheaper

After 25+ cars I do realise acting billy big balls isn't clever

This has surprised me tbf, my old 1.2 carb regularly saw valve bounce, it would cough and splutter and run like **** for about a min or so afterwards, but would always rev through it and run on all four again!

My mates old 1.2 carb was the same.

The 8v vauxhall jack up the lifters about 8000 rpm it's like hitting a misfire and the power drops right off. It normally cures its self. I'd whip the cam box cover over and take a look in there first.
