I have a brand new fuel tank. i want to use it for a single carb engine using a mechanical fuel pump.

I also bought a tank 2nd hand, his came from a rally car running twin bike carbs and an electric fuel pump. The fuel pump shown on the pics has been welded up. There is a fuel sender in the second hand one as well, and a hole in the new one in the same place so this needs swapping over I guess.

I've shown comparative photos to show the differences of the two tanks. I expected them to be identical. I'd rather use the new one and sell the 2nd hand one but will the new one be ok, what are all the pipes for ? Help much appreciated.

right, the nice snazzy painted one is the new one as a guess...
it is definitely the right one for a carb.. the 2 little stubs that come out near the corner are the feed & return..

the rest of the pipes are for the filler(obvious really) and also the various breathers

Much thanks!! Yeh shiny grey one is new. Any idea how easy it is to swap a sender over from the old to new tank ?

from a carb tank, its a twist on design. you knock it round with a hammer and suitable bar/screwdriver.. and even though you think you'll have drained it, there is always fuel in it.... so be careful & wear goggles

Thanks, Is it a decent seal on its own or is some kind of other sealant required do you know?

it has a seal, but make sure it is clean & intact before refitting it.

Why is the filler neck pipe hole not in the same position on the two tanks ?
