View Full Version : Age old question, to ARB or not To ARB on XE, that is the question?
Thanks to all who helped in the EPAS thread, now my next question.
Front and rear ARB's on a XE nova,
Opinions please?
Usual usage will be A and B roads with occasional track use, defo not a track bias car.
I have never driven or been in a XE nova so I need your input please guys.

IMO try one, if you like it the keep it, if not take it off ;)
As above, try it and see.
Am I right in saying I need lowering blocks to fit one?
Thought that was let ....
Dangerous without IMO
My XE was awful without

No idea mate, it's all new to me, :)
Blocks on XE as well, I did anyway
Don't run one, its a crap design and fitting with bodge lowering blocks makes its even worse.
Poly bush the wishbone and tie bar bracket though

Polybush the front end and fit decent suspension and you won't need one

Having seen how much a rear beam can flex without an anti-roll bar in it, I wouldn't want to run a Nova without one. Lets face it if your nova has a 2.0 engine in it, then its going to be driven hard and have a lot more forces put through it than the 1.0/1.2 base spec models which didn't have anti-roll bars.
Paul he's on about front arb.

Rear yes, front no (unless you love rubbing rats on your penis, or have a total redesign of the setup to actually sodding well work)
Cool :)
Tie bars? Would gsi ones make any difference?
I've decided not to strengthen the bottom arms, if prefer them to bend if I hit a kerb rather than not bend and transfer the energy onto the mounting points and probably bend them,

there from 16 to 20mm I think bazil - curious to what people say myself
The shell is a 1.2 so has the thin ones, I do have the ARB and tie bar setup on my silver GSI that I could borrow
bazil, try it & choose for yourself.... don't go off someone elses opinion
Actually he asked about both:
Sorry, didn't see he said about rear.

I asked this question a while back....with a similar thread title IIRC lol
I tried fitting it to test it, but it fouled badly on my exhaust manifold. I mocked up some blocks to see if that would sort it....nope!
Needless to say i am not running with one! I am however running the thicker tie bars with every bush possible replaced with poly ones. (not flo-flex) lol
I run the larger tie bars, full poly bushes, correct poundage springs and decent shocks. I do like how mine handles but I would also like to try an arb to see for myself.
More people need to add secondary rear arb, it transforms the handling
Had that in my silver one, probably use that rear axle away
So poly bush the front and no ARB I feel

I ran with a rear arb with 3 bushes I also ran a front arb for about 15 mins tops

I've tried both and don't run one now removed it as it folled on the Sbd fanimold and I've never wanted it back since
