going to go have a poke around one later tonight, anything worth looking out for?
Ive read the 1.8ltr engines are fairly bomb proof and this ones only done 100k miles anyway

I'd say rust on sills behind body plastics front wings and inner arches are all common places for rot owned a vr6 and mates had a few so that central locking window mechanism's also fail often but engines haven't ever given us problems :)

i got a lot of sparks but one night i did not seen a bump as it was poor paint on it to see and i almost rip the exhaust off ;(
Do you manage to eat your toast in the morning without asking if anyone has tried that bread before? lol
My dad had a Mk3 2.0 8v GTi. Slow as funk. Also had some issue with the radio (I think) where he put the code in wrong and it would not stop this annoying beeping alarm lol

right ive had a couple of these, my 1st was a gl with electric everything and it was a superb car it had done just over 200k and drove perfect couldnt fault it and it even had a bit of poke when you needed to get on. my 2nd was a gti 16v an even better car that was on 170k and i loved it. the only thing that lets em down is rust. check all the bay, inner & outer sills, a, b and c pillars, abouve the wind screen, arches, fuel flap, under the tail lights and rear floor pans

ive put a deposit down on it and should be picking it up this weekend after the mot is done, i poked around the sills etc and there alright, there is minor surface rust on different panels (front wings and some around the rear windows) but nothing to bad tbh
first working car ive owned since the mx5 and that was nearly a year and a half away lol

My gti 8valve,172k miles, apart from the dent in bonnet it's a minter, solid gearbox engine and chassis, none of the common faults on this at all :D
