Iv had some luck with sourcing more of this kit so now looking at getting it working but havent found an original loom. From what Iv read before these work via a relay when the headlamps are switched on and work off the wiper stalk.
Now I'm not the best with the electrics but not a novice, but don't want to go cutting my cars loom up. The 3 options I was thinking of running this where:
1• cutting into the current washer set up so when I squirt the front screen I squirt the headlamps.
2• get a separate switch next to the rear wiper switch and make a loom to the new washer pump cutting into a power souce somewhere.
3• try the original way with the switch being the wiper stalk and the live being from the headlight.
Anyone with knowledge of this please have you say.

there is a clever control relay on the nova. it takes a feed from the ign live, then 2 inputs, 1 from the tail-lights(cos they are on whatever the headlamps are doing) & the other from the windscreen washer switch. it is in the haynes diagram in chapter 13 and is called - K9
in terms of easiness, piggybacking 2 wires off the front washer pump will be the way to go.

I was just thinking if it works to use the switch feed from the original wiper and the power feed from the lights. With my thinking the switch is still the original stalk so wont have to fit s new one but it would only come on when the lights are on, which is the correct way.
you just take it from the washer pump end of the wire, but to make up a circuit to work off the washer & the lights, you'd need 2 relays (and a fuse) i'll sort out the wiring for you later if you want.

Mowgli that would be great if you could, I know there's a generic relay for the set up so will look into that know. Just flicked through the Haynes and both washer pumps seem to be connected somehow. Just can't see the power souce tho.
Pretty sure Rich /novasport has a original loom
Maybe ask him about it

He does indeed. May ask unless he sees this a posts a pick up, but if mowgli is offering to help out then his full of experience for the job!!

There is a feed in the loom near the heater motor that the washer loom plugs into. It is a female round socket and I think the wire is black with a red tracer. Live and earth is taken from the battery.
Haynes wiring diagram is the best to use.

Will that be on all mk1 looms tho? With mine being an 85 1.2l.

Should be, check the heater motor plug for a wire taped to it. It is the washer pump trigger wire. I cant remember where the light circuit trigger wire comes from.

K9 is the fused relay. Red live feed comes direct from the battery. Light circuit feed is Grey/Red going back to Grey/Green. Washer circuit feed it Black/Red. Brown is earth.
M24 is the headlamp washer pump.
this is how you wire it using std relays

Cheers for that rich. I did see the first pic earlier in my Haynes but wasn't sure how i was gonna wire it. Il look when it's light for the feed wire, hopefully it's there as that would make things easier.

Is relay 1 already on the car then? And is no 85 an earth?
no, you need 2 car bar relays & yes, 85 is earth

The pump has 2 spade type connections, where is the second coming from?

The original set up only requires 1 relay, is this due to the the original loom piggybacking on one somewhere?
the original has a clever relay with 2 inputs with a 'logic' gate to trigger it. am i right in assuming you don't have the original relay?
if you do, then just follow haynes, if you don't then my method will be a lot cheaper to rig up

This is the relay I'm getting, the part number matches the oem website so wouldn't think it's wrong.
Within you detailed plan above where would this sit? Relay 1? On rich's pic from Haynes it shows 5 wires coming from it not 4.
It does have 5, thats just a naff angle.

This is a picture of what the loom prob should be like (bottom left). seems to branch off 5 ways. It's just working out all connections.
