Im looking at building a smallblock screamer for my track toy, im after some insparation ,
There seems to be so many differant variations of 14, 1600 8v that im at a loss. Ive done the xe and let and now after some fun alomg the lines of

1400, 1600
Lightened an balanced
Pistons
Headwork
Carbs/bodies

Whats peoples set ups on here, ( im not out to copy anyone , just after some diff set ups)
Cheers

Why not go for a 1600 16v or even smallblock 1800 16v?

As said small block xe. Plenty of x16xe engines kicking about for pennies ;)

I think 16v is the route I will go by the amount of info about. I was looking at 8v becuase I had a e16se about 10 hears ago with a few quid spent on it running twin 40s and to say it shifted was an understatement.
As bodies and management will be further down tbe line, what sort of issues do people have with the immobilisers on the x16,

Z16SE Turbo? easier to get than an e16se and newer.

the only issue there is with the immobliser on x16 - needs by passing or run that engine's barrel/transponder and key hidden somewhere.
small block 1.8's give out torque that your old e16se could only dream of. If your prepared for a little extra work.

Utter bollocks...even if I had an open budget to build my ultimate Nova it would have neither a big block or a turbo

C16XE with powerbox, 8v flywheel and four bracnh manifold = job done.

thats what i have done on mine and i think its a good set up. on the immobliser issue had to get mine removed as i could not get it to start

I followed all the online guides and had my nova key cut in a corsa blank with the chip inside. I now have the immobiliser just as a corsa has it, works a treat. Good bit of security.
My X16XE runs power box inlet manifold and 4-1 stainless exhaust manifold (both the cheapest eBay sold), 8v flywheel, +1mm oversized pistons, adjustable fuel reg, cone filter and it runs 120bhp I think, cant remember exactly.
I like its power to weight ratio as it keeps the front end light compared to a 20XE. Its good as a usuable car.
For stupid thrills, I preferred my 20XE though.

Phase 2 let, 8.45 ring pass says it all

The Nurburgring is hardly a realistic representative of whats good on the road though...I much prefer the power delivery of a normally aspirated engine. I'm not going to say a small block XE will be quickest up the drag strip but a well sorted one would be my weapon of choice round the back roads

Or on most normal tracks either

In what way isn't the ring a decent representation of a track? Surely a track car that can set a competitive time on the ring has fulfilled its brief

X18XE1. Small block but 1800cc and 16vavles! Surely a decent compromise?!

Small block XE. Better for usable power for every day thrills & spills. LET motor if you wanna go really fast & slam the brakes on hard into every corner.

I can't see a small block being able to keep up with mine round a track. Would love to be be proved wrong though.

its not about big blocks vs small blocks lol. Just small blocks.
1.6 16v (c/x16xe) or 1.8 16v (x/z18xe/1) are best.
I suggest you give Bill falconer a call. Google him for contact details.
He's getting barmy results (clubman spec) by using 1.8 parts inside a 1.6 case.

Bill may call you a boy racer though;) he did with me when I wanted one of his manifolds + systems........never realised having an all steel 16xe was being a boy racer though.
