Got pulled over today, mr plod told me i have a huge flame coming out of my exhaust when i change gear or if i rev high and dont change gear. I have heard afew pops every now and then but didnt realise flames were coming out.

I got home and my mum rev'd the engine for me so i could see and it was about a foot long, huge orange flame, i crapped myself!

Is this just over fuelling? could it be anything else? Just recently my fuel consumption has improved but if it was over fuelling the carbs surely i would get less MPG.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

um, I've been told by a mate that your car maybe running really rich. Take it to some1, or if you have the know-how, tune the carb, so it runs more lean. Then come back and thank me :P

aye, my thoughts thought that too, think the twin carbs may need abit of a re-tune, but i may leave it until over the weekend just to have some fune

erm you wont last many miles like that.

your bores are going to end up so washed and borewashed and glazed. your car is gonna smoke like a bitch and you will need a rebuild unless you sort that sharpish

NEVER have i had my twin40 setup running that rich! you sure there jetted right?

does look trick though

bit rich and timing is out

or you have dispac and its just plain rich lol

whats dispac?

Checked spark plugs today and 2 of them were black - too rich, adjusted the mixture screws for them to sparks,

I may get them standard but id sooner not have them at all if it means a new rebuild etc!

mine does exactly the same, my exhaust pops everytime i change gear and tap the accelerator when revs are going down, someone said it might be becoz of a hole in my exhaust mixing air with fumes or summit, i dunno!

the carbs need properly setup and balanced and u need to check the timing

Cured it, 1 of the carbs wasnt sat square to the manifold and there was an air leak, since ive re-fitted it and squared it up to the manifold it doesnt flame nor bang.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions.
