Ever broke one?

I have. Broke it last month. On a small piece of bone in a pork chop.

Thought it was alright, seeing as I brush my teeth with Arm and Hammer Enamel Care (read polyfiller for teeth lol)

Now it has got itself an abscess. I cannot begin to describe the pain. The emergency dentist has told me to get into a proper dentist (not been for 10 odd years due to a bad experience with my previous one) but can't get an appointment any closer than the 10th of april :cry:

And has also recommended a surgical extraction. Anyone else had one of these? Details?

These are the antibiotics I'm on:

Second lot of Amoxicillin and a new lot of Metronidazole.

And these are the painkillers I've got:

Dihydrocodeine. Strong stuff apparently. lollol

My Girlfriend used to be a dental nurse, she spoke quite alot about surgical extractions they seam to be quite routine they just cut the gum I think and stitch it up when the tooth is removed. Under anaesthetic of course you shouldn't feel a thing. :)

Had one out Wednesday. Had a mild serdation in hospital, good few japs in the mouth, had my gum cut into and the tooth drilled into 2 pieces. currently have one hole, stitches in my mouth and a constant taste of blood. I'm on some antibiotics just in case but the pain had died down now tho.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha, youre having a laugh arent you lol

Had three removed end of last year as i was stupid and hadnt been to the dentist in years, no amount of pain killers nor alcohol were numbing the pain, had two done and the third was removed at hospital as a surgical extraction, five or six injections of aneasthetic, and because the top broke off as the tooth was holed, they had to drill the two pieces apart, then break each one from the jaw bone, and extract, laymans terms, they chiselled it apart, and used a pair of pliers, levering against the inside of my mouth to break the tooth out of my jaw, took nearly an hour and was fooking horrific!

Unlucky pal, youre in for a fair bit more of pain before its fixed, moral of this story is stop being a fool, and go to the dentist, i didnt and i paid the price with soul destroying pain for nearly a month with three fooked teeth, i never miss an appointment now!

I have got an appointment with my local one, but he is booked right up til the 10th of april!

As for extraction... If you could feel stuff Spud, then the amount was wrong.

I will have to be put right out as I can't handle needles in my gums. The mere thought of it is making me feel very cold.

Nope, cant numb bones and teeth, theyre basically smashing it out of your jaw as its fused in and not supposed to come out, trust me, im not trying to scare you, im just not blowing sunshine up your ****, its the single most horrific thing ive ever had to experience!

You will feel it, just numbed by the pain killers, think how excruciating it would be without them lol

I knows only too well your pain mate, like i say ill never miss an appointment now, and im a lot more careful with my oral hygene too!

Mine was fine, local anesthetic and a dentist pulled it out, went back to work, walked in the door and nearly passed out because I was still halfway under anesthetic and probably a bit in shock about having part of my mouth yanked out lol

They're not joking when they say take it easy for the rest of the day :p

But were talking about surgical extractions, i had two of my fooked ones done at my dentist, and albeit they were sore (the yanking and breaking of the tooth before it comes out is what i mean) i drove myself home afterwards!

A surgical one is where they have to cut the gum wide open and dig the tooth out as its either not protruded from the gum enough, or its broken to a degree where it cannot simply be pulled as it will break and warrant having to be dug out!

I'm quite aware of what a surgical extraction is, like I say mine was taken out by a dentist, i.e not a surgical extraction.

Appointment he's got with the dentist will assess whether or not surgery is required and they'll most likely attempt a normal extraction before surgical too, as they obviously did with you...

I didn't think they were allowed to put people out under a general for teeth nowadays? Which is a shame as I ought to really get mine taken out and quite fancy a nice snooze lol

7 years ago I had all my wisdom teeth extracted and 3 other teeth at the same time, obviously a hospital job and knocked out for it, three hours later I was home.

Don't drink or smoke when having teeth out, also the amount of blood pockets in my gums was horrible... Btw I always brushed my teeth regularly but I had brittle teeh which caused infections :(

I had two wisdoms extracted in a chair under I've sedation, when I woke up all my ribs hurt, they must have claimed on me to yank them out.

Teddy - have them extracted in day surgery unit, much better idea.

All 4 wisdom teeth removed 2 years ago,my dentist is an actual surgical dentist at the hospital, so she advised 4 appointments incase of difficulties,
3 came out fine,

My lower left took 45 minutes to remove, worst fcuking pain ever!
Had to cut deep into my gums to cut the roots from near my jaw bone.
Three weeks it took before I could chew again on that side if my mouth.

The amount of yanking is due too teeth being bone and grow from the jaw bone, all you should feel is your head move as they yank.

Alot dont need stitches, mine didnt. Ozie doc put his knee on my tummy to help pull it free...lol.
Am having a simple job one done on the 25th.

Plus as you have an infection, they wont remove it till its cleared up.

I have only ever had one tooth removed, when I was 8 years old.
That was a surgical extraction. It was growing at 30/40 degrees to the other teeth, and as such, had the tooth below pushing against it.

I remember constantly vomitting blood for what seemed like days afterwards.
They said it wouldn't grow back. It did. Although this time it grew through the inside of my gum lol.
It's still there, and causes no issues.

I went to the dentist last year, for the first time in about 17 years. I still have no cavities or fillings etc.
Score!

My sisters teeth are also 'perfect'. When younger, we had that flouride stuff sprayed on them, and I am certain that's to thank for the current condition - as I have and still do to an extent, treat my teeth like ****. lol

Nice picture. lol

I have mine somewhere. It's in three pieces iirc. Looks like it came from a horse.

As for ok condition teeth, I suppose I have to experience good fortune somewhere mate.
My life is like a great big ball of sh!t in every other aspect!

Thankfully my tooth has been rather quiet recently. I think the antibiotics kicked in finally, and switching to the electronic fag thingy helped as well. I have got my appointment on the 10th to assess what's what. I have become somewhat accustomed to not chewing that side of mouth as much anyways. Shall have to wait and see what happens really... I will refuse point blank to have any needles in my gums. So if they want it out (like I do lol) they will have to put me under. Besides, even if it does hurt like hell, then I will put up with that pain for a few days as it is probably nowhere near as painful as what it was when I had the infection. I ripped all the muscle in my ankle a few years ago.. That fooking hurt, and I would much rather take that again over what has been happening with my tooth.

Keep us posted. My wisdom grew onto the next tooth, cracking it in half and pushing it up against the next one. So now i have all three teeth just about at gum level and rotten. They dont give me much pain so ive ignored it as im too **** scared of needles. Plus when i had one out the other side i could feel everything they did and it took the dentist plus the nurse to push down on my chest and head to pull it out. Im not going to go through that again awake.
It`ll be interesting to see if they do put you under or not. There used to be a place here you could go private and pay the extra to be put under but they dont do it anymore. Roll on false teeth.

Yeah I heard that sometimes they have to sit on your chest as the roots are fooking massive!

Anyone want me to see if I can get a picture of what's left of my tooth?? lollollol

Keep us posted.

Have had my dental appointment. Wasn't as bad as I feared it to be. Generally my teeth are alright.

Dentist grimaced a lot when I told her that I hadn't been in around 13 years. lol.

And then winced when I told her how I broke my tooth. She has given some more antibiotics to be completely sure that the infection has gone. And I have a conscious sedation (owing to the fact that I refuse point blank to having needles in my gums due to a bad experience with my last dentist, which I also told her) in July. Bit of a long time to wait, but that's needing a conscience sedation and the NHS for ya...

Well it has happened. The tooth is gone! Face feels like a balloon. Unfortunately, didn't manage to be able to bring the tooth home, but dentist assured me it was in three pieces. Had the "twilight sleep" didn't do a lot, but certainly made the needle in the gum disappear lol.

Mine was taken out on the 9th of May. Hard one to remove. Face was bruised and swollen, 9th of june i was still taking pain killers... Now i just had a hole that hasn't really healed.
