Hi

I'm looking to buy a new set of tyres but choice in 14 inch seems to be limited, F1 Eagles are no longer available but just wandered if anyone had any experience with the following for use on the road, mileage would be low and only in the dry ?

Avon ZV3
Uniroyal Rainsport
Toyo R888

Thanks

Really depends what they are for. I've Uniroyal Rainsport 2 on my Clio 172 and they are bloody fantastic all round tyres. Toyo 888 are a more track based tyre with a cut slick style tread pattern, would be ropey in the wet. The wife had Avon ZZ1 on her S3 and they were great.

deffo what there for, like faker says.

i'd go for some all rounders personally.
i splashed out on a set of decent summer tyres, and they locked up both times, testing in damp conditions. next time i need them in an emergency, im most likely going to crash.
they only seem suited to the dry, which is far from englands climate, even in summer.

maybe go 175/65 too, less chance of rear arch rubbing

regarding those rainsport 2's, ive heard nothing but good in their reviews

I used Uniroyals rainexperts in that size for a while on road and 3 track days and they are amazing value for money (£35 each iirc)

They're probably made for going to the shops and back but around damp knockhill they just wouldn't lose grip even when going flat out!

Ok thanks for the replies, looks like Rainsport's seem to be the best option.

looks like the smallest they do is 195, youll prob have issues with that size on a nova, hmmm thats a bit dissapointing

after a quick scan, the rainexperts in 175/65 profile. same ones mieran had, scored pretty well in tests/reviews.

Thanks, not sure why I put Rainsports at the beginning, I did mean Rainexperts. The tyres are for an Astra GTE, the standard teardrops alloys.

ah those, yeah 185 / 60 will do nicely on an astra. had a quick look at the prices. you'll be able to get a set of 4 fitted for about £200 to £250 depending on prices in your area.
im sure they'll be better than the dunlops i bought

I bought Toyo CF1's from my SR 185/60/14, she's only out in dry weather, they seem fine, haven't really pushed them, they were £10 a tyre cheaper that the equivelent Yoko (road tyre, not trackday tyres)
