View Full Version : Audi A3 TDi Sport
Looking into getting a new daily but never owned an Audi in me life so I know a grand total of funk all about them really.
Looking at Audi A3 TDi Sport (manual box), any have any input on them? Whats these DSG gearbox like aswell as theres loads for sale with that. What they like on servicing costs aswell as I do like 30k a year so just like my current daily itll get main dealer service regularly.

If your looking at 06-09 plate etc get a golf imo, missis has two sisters who have both, ones an 08 plate tdi s line a3
And the others an 06 plate golf gti and Imo the golf feels better built, more room inside, nicer spec, all round a better car imo an tbf I don't really like the golf either lol

I've got an 08 plate a3 2.0tdi, I personally think its a great car. I get around 40mpg around the town and around 52 on the motorway etc. it's been stupidly reliable in the 2 years I've had it I can't fault it great little workhorse. And regards to the dsg box there awesome IMO my mate has an s3 with dsg the gear changes are rapid and can use it similar to a manual also. Hope this helps
I like them, but then i'm biased ;) replied on fb too.
Cheers John. Think I might stick to a straight manual box to be fair, stop start M6 rush hour every morning would soon get boring with a paddle shift even though I do love paddle shift gearchanges lol dont think the Audi box would be as much fun as the Astons & Bentleys at work though :(lol
Ive looked at TDi Golfs Scott, dont really like them. And you seem to get same or better spec car with the Audi for similiar monies & IMO they look soooo much better too. And youve got to bear in mind, I really do do stupid silly milage all the time! Ive done over 2k miles in ten days before working between different centres around the UK. So a pleasing comfy interior is a must!!
What these Audi's like on fuel does any one know? Some people in internet are saying low 40's, others high 50s. Surely theyve got to be better then 30 odd mpg at a push from my current derv hack!

I would hope so, even the 90's (read 70's design lol) straight 6 BMW I had did better than that! The hell have you done to the current one? lol

42litre tank. 70~80 miles average a day in stop start M6 traffic. Lucky if you can get over 60mph most days :(
Theres nowt wrong with it, and its just had nearly £1k worth of servicing/maintenance/diagnostics at Vauxhall main dealer 2 week ago lol
EDIT: Just done some quick maths, appears I average around 42mpg. Who knew ehh lol
That's more like it, not bad at all in stop start lol Calculator upside down the first time? :p
The 1.9 will be better on fuel than the 2.0 but obviously less poke. I worked on vw's for 4 years, and now when at audi and i get a golf in, i think they feel cheap compared to the a3. The dash is awful.
You like the AML paddle shift..... WTF is wrong with you lol its one of the slowest and most irritating shifts I've ever encountered.

Good choice! I'm far from an expert on them but its On my shortlist for the next daily. I'm on my 4th Audi now 2x A3 1.8,TT 225 and now have the B7 A4 2.0t. Never had any engine trouble etc from any of them. Had the odd broken window cable, coolant sensor but nothing major. I'd be tempted to steer clear of the 2.0tdi engine. Heard there troublesome from a few friends that have that engine in there vw/Audi.
Because my passat has destroyed a window cable VAG cars are now off the list of replacement vehicles (and the V8 S4 was on it :( )

the 2.0 PD engines known to be a bit of a headache, the later CR engines are supposed to be much more reliable. Iv got a CR 170bhp 2.0 TDi in my Leon, lovely engine.

Yeah if I were you I'd take the S4 off the list, the boot lock solenoid freezes around -4 lol which it is 99% of the time up here!
