I've been in a similar situation.

Ring them up and tell them. You will then need to write a letter explaining when it was weighed in and where.
Even if the yard has shut down, that's none of your concern.

It may even work in your favour..

Ensure you send the letter by recorded post too. Job done.

Despite all of the bad press, the DVLA are alright for most things imo.
