Has anyone on png bought the 1.4sr off ebay? It was low miles and looked kind of clean in the photos. It had obviously been in a crash on the front with the bump in the front bumper, wing had been replaced or painted and wing mirror broken. Also I did notice the back bumper was mega faded with no pinstripe so had been replaced and the rear towing eye painted red. That would suggest the back end had been painted, repaired or both. What is the power difference between a 1.3 and 1.4sr and 0-60 times? Just interested.

Saw this Nova, it looked good in the photos but as Alex says, you need to see and inspect it. According to Vauxhall the 1.4 has 2 hp extra and 7 Nm, but many folk say the 1.3 is faster although I wouldn't have thought there'd be much in it either way.

44000 miles is high compared to this one - only 11000 miles !!

It looks fantastic but is it just me or is the drivers side vinyl glossy?

The boot lock etc looks totally mint so the car is either genuine or rebuilt, but whichever it is, it is probably one of the cleansest white Novas anywhere lol

Are we talking about the white one? It has been for sale a couple of times over two years or so i think. I remember seeing it and on the first advert on ebay it had rust. I cant remember if it was on the arch or lower half. So I do know it has had body repair. Also it was for sale for 4K.

This is the email

Hi Robert, Matthew from Hollybrook. Thanks for your email response.

We are asking £9k for the Nova, and it really is a special example.

The car has one family owner from new, and was originally an English example owned by an elderly couple, who after they had enjoyed the car in the latter stages of their life gave the car to their middle aged Nephew who is an an active Vauxhall enthusiast and classic collector. Thankfully whenever the elderly couple owned the Nova, despite the low mileage completed they still maintained a comprehensive Vauxhall service history which boasts no fewer than 21 stamps within it's original booklet, serviced every July.

Whenever we took the vehicle into our fold, we knew we had something special and a guaranteed future investment, and wanted to bring the car as close to showroom standard as possible. Looking at the car's exterior, it can only be described as close to immaculate as you would hope to find. The bright white paintwork is spotless throughout, with the vinyl trim in spectacular health. Standing just a couple of feet away it looks like it has gently rolled out of the Vauxhall showroom, it's that good.

Lightly pop the driver's latch and peer within and you are greeted to that wonderful 80's striped Nova trim. The seats are immaculate, being fresh and spotless, the carpets still have that all familiar factory sparkle and are stunning, with all the interior trimmings untouched and excellent in health throughout. It's literally like a new example. The Nova still manages to rest on it's original steel wheels with plastic trims, which is quite rare, and was the only year that the Nova came specified like this. If you had wanted a set of original 'Y' wheels instead, these can be supplied.

This is a special car, and one for the collector or active enthusiast. They really don't come about like this that often, and with time will become an increasingly rare sight on our public roads. If you would like to arrange a viewing appointment, please don't hesitate to be in touch and I will be more than happy to help you,

With kindest regards,

Matthew Cruickshank

Really?
Go on, tell us how much? (your car is mint though)

Mine is almost mint and I insured it last time for 1500! This will now really bug you then.....I bought mine 6 years ago just before Nova prices went up, for...£650.

Drove it home from England with one small running problem, carb vacuum. The only rust was a tiny hole at the bottom of a front wing, gt it repaired and tidied for 50. I can't believe an SR is worth that much, although I'm not complaining!

I'll look for abetter pic llater.

Very true, and although it's just a 1.3, if the carb actually works, they are amazingly nippy motors, I think they are worth the money.

If they are getting this sort of money (9K!!!!!, perhaps not), it's worthwhile buying rough ones and rebuilding them, despite doing it out of lurve, it would even be possible to make a profit.

Get all the cavities waxed (not black waxoil). Inside of arches, sills etc, also the behind lip of the rear wheel arches, again waxed or grease. A lot of rust proofing. I have mint 1984 car that had a gorgeous engine bay....I covered it with wax. The reason being , hopefully in 10 years or so time, if I want to see a mint engine bay, clean the wax off and I still will.

just inspect everything, you'll soon see what's been done. If it has been repaired well, then just accept it. How many Novas do you think have never had a body repair?

Probably none!!! Ie back in the day when they were classed as chav cars boy racers used to bend them round trees lol.

I made an offer on that car before you pressed buy it now. You should've made a cheeky offer like I did! He counter-offered at £1400.

If it had been closer to North Wales, I'd probably have accepted the offer. However, he was pretty quick at replying to my emails until I asked him if there was history to back up the mileage- then he didn't respond. The extra photos he sent me also show bits of grey primer on the boot floor. Probably nothing to worry about but I've bought blind on ebay before and I'm not doing it again lol

Looks like a good solid car from the photos though, battery tray and what I have seen of the boot floor looks very solid.

If you decide against it, let me know :)

I emailed about it 1st time it was on and he was adamant he wanted £1500.

I am not sure why a scrapyard is selling it though if its as good as stated, unless of course someone forget about it their heated garage then wanted rid so got it collected!

There is a reason the wing needs a mop and polish - probably because its just been painted. The question is why - rot, rust or damage!

In my opinion, for £1500 it needs to be immaculate and original because realistically its top money for a facelift mk1 SR.
