Looks great. Nice to see a hatch in this colour, usually only on loons. Are you leaving it standard?

chrisd1986
24-02-13, 07:21 PM
yes, ive just gone out in it to the chippy and it drives miles better than my saloon (super smooth gear changes, lighter clutch and silend) and drives better than the 62 plate corsa i had as i hire car after my golf was wrote off

24-02-13, 07:51 PM
Just keep it clean ! I'm so gel right now lol

chrisd1986
24-02-13, 08:05 PM
its got a few things that need a fettle to get it right but its gona take some getting use to driving a nova without 256mm brakes up front but having said that its not going to get raced down country roads like my saloon

Agreed, my Swing is lovely to drive. It is very comfy, still feels tight and the 1.2 is surprisingly spritely, even with the 4 speed box.

she has gone to a good home. suprisingly it is nippyer than my saloon its like ive just bought it new from the factory, its getting a full service with cambelt kit and water pump, ball joints, track rod ends coolant and brake fluid change before i get it taxed so i can use it at weekends

I agree, my 1984 1.0 swing and 1.2 L are comfy and quiet, both nippy and refined ride for what they are. No electronic gismos which people think is refinement rather than forgiving ride and quietish road noise due to skinny tyres. I love the old wee ones best.

02-03-13, 07:16 PM
What are your plans for it

just going to keep it standard and use it on sunny days as ive never owned a nova this mint in the 10 years ive been into them plus i like how it drives to much to change it just wish i could get big block brakes under the wheels as that is the only thing i dont like about any small block novas is the lack of stopping power. it needs a full spray and it will be stripped to a rolling shell and sprayed inside out and underneath

Lovely car mate. pretty sure the early back bumpers, didn't have the splitter at the bottom of the bumper

chrisd1986
03-03-13, 01:00 PM
im not that botherd over the bumper being different tbh as i have then got the trouble of finding one that isnt scuffed and then when i do people wack scene tax on it and charge the earth, i know these little beautys are getting rare but its no wonder why they because people havent got the money to pay out for what these c u n t s are asking for. rant over lol

11-04-13, 10:22 PM
I had the same head unit, I took it out of a cav mk3 on a H plate, so it's not that far off the period. The best bit about it was the electronic radio pre set buttons! The original headunit was much more basic, it was just a radio (mono only). I was sick of pressing in a long button on the front and watching the needle skip across the dial to a position that didnt even have a station broadcasting there anymore!

IMO, don't go with the MO's or the orange indicators. Sell the wheels and find some with a polished lip and a retro centre.

chrisd1986
11-04-13, 10:27 PM
im keeping the clears and the mo's were a impluse buy because i just wanted them and want to see what the look like on the car. i want 7j ats cup but ive not got that kind of money atm as im keeping reserve funds for the off chance of a set of daytona checkers coming up

Car looks good mare, engine is nice, lol how many nurf bullets did you take home?

chrisd1986

Thanks mate its a sportex system for a sr but its 2" pipe so it should be better than a gsi system hopfully.and beleve it or not i didnt take any home, i emptyed it on the monday and went on a hunt and didnt find any

Steve
23-05-13, 11:11 AM
Looks the same as conzas on his sr, think that was a sportex. I bought an identical one from AutoSprint in Birmingham years back for my 1600, it was intended for rallycross and it didn't look anything special but sounded sweet and gave a noticeable gain with their 4 branch

chrisd1986
23-05-13, 11:20 AM

If i was you id stitch weld the inner arches instead of the bay so it looks tidier, I don't know why more people do this.
Is there any benefit of welding in the bay instead of the arches?

Its in finally. I knew i was going to be cutting it fine getting it welded and painting the bay for retro rides so after i had my tea i decided to put it in so here it is
http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb368/chris_d_1986/20130607_213647_zpsf57fed20.jpg

Ive got the shafts in, gsi tie bars on with new ball joints and the gear linkage is done i did have a couple of scrapes on the way in and then the ram on my hoist broke when the engine was up in the air so i had no choice but to drop it no matter what and the intake pipe needs replacing for a full silicone type as it fouls on the turret

Thanms mate i would have got it done quicker and got more done yesterday if i had pulled my finger out but now ive got the dreaded wiring to contend with. I will make one recomendation tho take the coil pack off the engine to give that extra bit of clearance on the master cylender

good work mate!

Thanks nick

Mines a 2.0 ltr xe with a distributer so there's loads of room for the cylinder in it have had every thing mounted up and all fits well on her

chrisd1986
08-06-13, 12:55 PM
I wanted to go big block xe but the 1.6 was £200 cheeper to buy with everyrhing and i can rune bigblock power out of it and have better handleing

simonm
08-06-13, 01:50 PM
Yea it's nice to squeeze that bit extra out of the small block but I just like the look and feel of the bigblock not going to be doing any track days or racing with it it's just for my own pleasure. I've got my mk4 gsi astra and an Evo 5 for the track and a big bike so the nova is purely for making me feel 18 again lol

Ive got the 4-1 manifold and powerbox as you can see but ive got a c16xe head im gona get done and put on over the winter and then al get it mapped before it comes back on the roda next year. Ive got this any my mk4 golf 20vt which is my family/tow car which is for comfort but still fast and the nova i can do as i wish as the mrs hates them. Would love to go turbo with the little xe just wish i had the cash

I put m dummy back in today and had another crack at it just needs a bodge on the exhaust as the one i have dosnt meet up to the manifold and the way that the rear hanger is set the tail pipe will stick out 2 far but it actually looks like its made for a mk2. Just need to do the loom buy some fuel lines and the heater pipes and i should be ready for lift off oh and put oild in the gearbox when i know what one it is

chrisd1986

yo chrissy boy, can you do me a favour next time your out taking pics please mate.

im after a few shots of the clearance around and behind the powerbox, if you can, cheers. :thumb:

how do you rate that VX box by the way ?

chrisd1986
19-10-13, 05:28 AM
Al get some for you when I get home pal. I think its spot on and cant fault it, its sealed well on the inlet but ive not driven a standard one to compare it to but ive had it off the clock and it dosnt hang about getting there either spinning up in 3rd but it works well with the 4-1 exhaust manifold. Only issue ive had regarding clearance is with the strut brace as the water pipes for the throttle body fouled on it but a solid rear engine mount will cure that. Alsong as it dosnt go through drive shafts like underpants when I get a chance to abuse it properly next year I will be happy

Really need to get my finger out over winter, i could really do with someone coming down to help me take the engine out the corsa, as i really do know where to start, theres so many wires and **** in the bay lol

If ure not sure about stuff just label everything get yourself a paint marker pen and just work around the bay.

If ure putting the engine straight in ie not cleaning it/changing anything just leave all pipes ,cables etc connected
to the block so less to think about.
