View Full Version : xe question
hi can anyone tell the difference between early an an late 2.0 xe engines i keep coming across it and i dont know which ive got or how to tell the difference if there is any, and is there a way for interest sake of telling what car it came from astra cav etc.. thanks dan.
really early ones have thinner crank bearings. then there is the different heads, coscast or KS. that's about it really
then the electronics come into play, there is the 20xe which is the earliest, and non Cat. then there are various versions of the c20xe (cat). anything with an X prefix is an ecotec engine.
thanks again mate, got something to go on now, is there any manuals for these engines available or should i jus get one for a cav or astra
early engines have a forged mahle pistons stamped with 86p on the underside, and also early setups have round tooth belts which imo are alot better than the later auto tensioning type

There are only 2 types with the later one being called the LN engine and it has a different cam pulley arrangement with different shape teeth on the belt. Early ones are round teeth and later ones square teeth.
