I really really really really don't see the attraction with Mk1 escorts. The only Ford worth having has a horse on it lol

Not really, if a Nova has rusty arches it's scrapped, if it's one of the utterly amazing legend of motorsport mk1 escort someone will pay £15 grand for a rotter, therefore overpriced crap

Since when was any nova sport scraped for rusty arches you can pick nice mk2s up for around 8k I bet if the brown sport came up forsale again it would be that

Edd
24-02-13, 08:48 AM
There's no way that the brown Sport would sell for £8grand now it's exposed as a ringer

But Ford boys wouldn't think twice about buying a reshelled ringer escort for £8grand

i have noticed nova prices have gone up a few ££££ over thae last 5 years but prices for xe novas has come down. its all down to scene tax, just because you dont see these cars as much and parts are slightly harder to get hold of people start charging extortionate prices for things and its why we dont see these cars about as much as most wont pay the price (or the mrs wont let them lol) and it pisses me off

blue_peg_16v
24-02-13, 09:03 AM
Everyone knew it was a ringer when it sold originally and anyway to compare a nova to a ford you have to look at similar period and mk2 fiestas and mk3 and 4 escorts and and anything bar something wearing an rs badge is similar priced to a nova and the rs is similar to the sport so no difference really

If your wanting to compare escort mk1 you have to look at things like the chevette hsr and manta i400 granted not as dear as the fords but fecking expensive.

The only reason I liked Novas were they were cheap fun and easy to make reasonably quick, it's not the case anymore prices are on the up and I'm starting to think its better to sell em and get a corsa b lol

Also when the nova becomes Ellagable for historic rallying expect the prices to go up again!

Graeme
24-02-13, 09:07 AM
Nova prices have gone up a lot and I'm glad I'm no longer looking for panels etc but if you selling then its a good thing, never dreamt I get £80 for a gsi grill badge but its what people are willing to pay

Just sounds like you are bitter that a sport hasnt gone up in value as much as Ford stuff lol
Vauxhall has terrible race heritage, ok a few rallys and a bit of BTCC, but they never PROPERLY did what Ford/Subaru/Lancia did and get road going variants out for the masses to buy... Ohh a 1.3 on T40's, well spunk my pants, oh hang on its not really that fast, nevermind lol.

The only 'vauxhall' with motorsport pedigree worth a thought is the Holden Commadore lol
Mainstream Fords decimated GM sales in the late 90's and early 00's, Only with the MK6 astra and Insignia have GM remotely come back to the party with stuff better than the blue oval. Mind you saying that GM and Ford vehicles are all terribly dull and just appliance cars at the end of the day.

Edd

I'm never ever selling so couldn't give a fcuk how much it's worth lol

mowgli

it probably didn't help that vauxhall spent the 70's attempting to rally various versions of the viva, and their racing was mostly baby bertha in modsports. then into the 80's the chevette hsr was massively outclassed by the rwd fords, and opel ascona/manta...why they didn't rally the cavalier sportshatch(which was the original manta b), or for sales, the cavalier saloon, is beyond me..
the groupS astra would have been an interesting idea if it had been done 3 years earlier......

vauxhall really didn't need much motorsport promotion for most of the 80's simply because the sierra put off the fleet buyers so they bought cavaliers in their droves, and the astras were vastly superior to the escorts. the novas were simply fun cheap cars.

as for motorsport in general, there were the tie ins with the xe engine, it was designed as an engine to qualify them for F3, and there were the vauxhall lotus championships too..

opel were ploughing untold millions into DTM, and we got the BTCC racers.

Typical inferiority complex from the blinkered Griffin brigade.
Your loyality is admirable, but to believe most products are anything but second-fiddle to the offerings of Ford is laughable.

If motorsport success, values and parts availability/continued development alone aren't enough for you to see thenlight, then one word.
Transit.

Most people don't say 'van'. They say Transit. Absolutley noone refers to a non-descript white van as a Vivaro.

Ford motor company makes great products for the market they are in.
The batteries are probably ****e mind, but it shows their dominance as a global brand.

Edd, feel free to thank the blue oval for the creation of BMW Motorsport too.
Whether you like Ford or not, I think we can all agree on the M cars. (unless you would prefer an VXR Vectra? lol lol)

Why nearly fall out? lol The Zetec is an ideal engine for a budget Westy etc.
Especially if you're not going to rebuild.

I would rather have the much newer engine from a family mans motor, than an ancient 'red top' (as if tens of other engines don't have red cam covers...) from a ragged from new hot hatch.

If the better engine for the application came from the Vaux, I would say the same.

this explanation i'd like to hear..

you might call the vivaro, but when you add up the sales of the identical nissan & renault versions, i think you'll find they sell rather well against the transit. (oh, and the cf was regarded as a better van than the mk1/2 transit, but ford had a much bigger commercial vehicle presence in the marketplace)

Isn't it due to the RS500 in touring cars, that BM developed the Batmobile M car, so they could compete, and ultimately take over Fords no. 1 position in the sport?

I've never looked into it, but definitley heard this. Mind, it could have been on Top Gear...

I like the Vivaro/Trafic/Primastar. Prefer the Transit though.

That's the point, the Transit has and still does dominate. For whatever reasons.

No love for the M5? The E39 facelift is a great car.

As for the E92, I'm no fan of the look of the M3. I think the 330ci is a fine looking machine though.

so was M dept created simply cos ford was walloping all the german companies in touring car racing??
bmw did spend a lot of years trying to win F2 against the ford FVA (1/2 a dfv) and ended up buying an FVA to see how they were doing it...(source: the cosworth biography)

Dunno. I'm sure it's older than the RS500, but like I say, I don't know the story.

I think the first M road car came about because of touring car competition with Ford though.
Homologation innit.

i dont think vauxhall have ever build a car better then ford ever has. The fact ford has massive motorsport history prob hepls sale with the rs ranges throught the years

the rs500 came out as a response to the m3. cos the original cossie got whipped by them. most cossie fans forget this....the original cossie in group A could manage about 350hp, the m3 made about 320hp, was lighter & handled better.

the original m sport car, the mid engined m1 was designed as a motorsport promotional car in the late 70's.. the grid was made up of f1 drivers & called procar.. ron dennis actually race prepped them (before he managed to take over mclaren) the engine was later used in the m635 touring car, when touring car races were proper long distance races, 500km, 1000km, 24hrs etc, and they raced against rovers & jags in europe

Because I wrote a load of software in the engine controller of the my07-my13 transit lol

LOL thread.

I dont particulary like GM, nor modern Fords...

But I do have on thing to add..... Titanium X Sport spec. Makes your top of the range GM look like a pov spec Nova FFS.

And the new 1.0 3 cyclinder turbo Focus will keep up with most lower engined SRi spec GM's. Thats with a full leather trim, auto park/wiper/mirrors, sat nav, blind spot alert system, front & rear sensors blah blah blah.

AND heated steering wheel :)

Not bad for a brand new car that has zero VED aswell.

Well yeah there is this lol

Two weekends ago I was out with Mrs Mike looking at cars. It was either the new shape Kuga Titanium, the spec we wanted came to just under £30k with a £10k trade in of a fully loaded 09 Mondeo Titanium X estate at 41k. Similiar spec Range Rover Evoque was only £2155 more. BUT in 3 years time the RR WILL be worth more then the Ford.

We then popped into a GM dealer, and the specs they offer didnt even come close for the price lol let alone the trade in value.

EDIT: Its quite a shame really, as GM do make some alright cars. But the specs are certainly lacking for the price. There good value, just they suck a little compared to other similiar marques/models that are out at the minute.

Stuart
24-02-13, 10:25 PM
Gm have totally missed the European spec of a car completely, plus they tend to be one or two ved bands higher for the same engine class as fords :( have to say though, chap at work has a mk6 Astra and while its cooking spec you can't fault 160+bhp derv at £35 a yea in ved.... Although it did cost the same as my 500 lmao
