is it actually pumping fuel to the carb? remove the discharge pipe from the pump and crank it over. Pump is maybe U/S
Didn't think of that cheers

dodgy pump or dirt in the carb by the sounds of it.
if the pump gushes out of the pipe ok like lover boy said, youve prob got a blockage in the carb.
with the airbox off, look down the carb while you spin the throttle linkage, can you see a nice clean spray of fuel being sprayed down into the barrel of the carb ?
oh - use an empty water bottle or something to stick the fuel pipe into while you check, or youll get fuel all over the engine and bay
if its been stood the fuel lines sometimes become blocked
remove the lines an blast them with air line an refit
