View Full Version : Xe starts, running rich, turn off try to start again floods...
as title i can jump in it when cold it will fire up but wont rev running rich?
turn it off, try again floods ?
i checked crank sensor, air mass, new leads has spark
been told to bypass the lamba pin 20 to earth ? anyone know what colour it is or is it just numberd on the ecu clip?
another thing struggling to get warm heaters? water circulating fan cut in and out but heater matrix feels cold air lock? ive plumbed all up correct as picturess i jack one side of car up header tank high up as possible to bleed it
let me know what you think cheers dale

while its runnig / warming up - try unclamping a hose on the bayside of the matrix, just a little to let the pressure out till liquid flows, might free up a lock if you have one.
if its rich, youll prob be getting unburt petrol out the exhaust pipe ? and sooty black spark plugs.
you can adjust that i think on the xe's from a screw on the front of the MAF, maybe not a good idea to listen to me tho, it'll end up breaking :P

i give it ago once running better again, and yeah plugs are sooty black and never knew you can adjust the air mass, i think i gonna bypass lamba as it then eliminates that, if still rich, is there any diagram on how to adjust like what clockwise do and anticlockwise ? cheers tho good info more for me to research :)

ive just had the same problem with my gte 16v,,,duff coolant temperature sensor..when it fails it causes the engine to over fuel via AFM and its hard to start..and mine wouldnt start at all till i changed it..cheap to replace aswell try it 1st.
items to check AFM/IDLE CONTROL VLV.

if it is the CTS. Try unplugging it altogether. This should let the ECU ignore it and substitute a value of about 80deg. If there is no EML light on, its probably within range but just completely wrong.
Gonna try a load of think found on internet and have a play about with it check afm, wiring, try different coolant temp sensor and see how it goes, cheers for info i let you know how it goes, dale.

have you just recently put the bits together ? or has the engine been running fine and decided to go like this ?
i had similar probs when i put my engine in (dizzy xe), it ended up being the crank sensor

recently put engine in done 80mile run mot and back road testing, but always seems to be over fuel? when i pull of revs on a little it splutters? , i fitted a new starter motor power cable and after that it wont start and keeps flooding, cuz i having trouble with bleeding heaters could my coolant temperature be faulty ? or big air lock cause it x
have you tried a new coolant temp sensor yet? :)

maybe take it out and give it a good clean up, any dirt or corrosion on the sensor and wiring attachment
is this it john ?
£38 is criminal for something like that
must be one cheaper

sort the airlock issue out first tho i reckon, as that could potentially kill your engine if it overheats

it certainly wont be helping matters. What is that connector for?
coolant temperture sensor, looks like i need to remount oil cooler piping, everytime engine moves obvs putting stress on the cts wire
