Right I need put a tempery engine together for the rally needs to be low cost so will be using parts I all ready have
Has any one used a z16se bottom end with an e16 head and manifolds would give higher compression but would the old type management be happy ??

there practically the same engine arent they ?
z16se 8v
e16se 8v

maybe a difference in the cat, or induction/fueling setup of the Z version ?

The S denotes they should be the same compression ratio anyway,

The Z16SE is more like the C16SE as it uses coilpack and it setup for passing emission tests.

In theory you can use the Z16SE head and use the E16 cam and cam housing to allow using a dizzy and your E16 inlet and management.

I've had only a quick look at this though.

The major difference in the bottom ends are the pistons z16 are flat toped e and c16 are dished so you would get higher comp

After a quick google search it appears the Z16 has a lower cr than both the E+C 16's
A lot less power too, have you worked out the cr using the E16 head yet?

Hi basil the head design is very diferent a much larger volume on the z16
if I've done my sums right z16 pistons in a e16 would give a C/R of 11.5-1 I think standard is 10-1 ? So was thinking this with 2 litre injectors not sure if I would get away with a cam upgrad thou with the flap type meter but I might use the inlet and managment from an c14se thoughts please ??

I don't see the point in using the C14 stuff, C16 and C14 used an integrated engine and car loom so you would need a full loom change,

Certainly the E16 setup is easier to install but can't be tuned the C16 did have an aftermarket chip that could be installed.

The other advantage of the E16 inlet is that it can use a LET fpr or blanking plate if you choose to install a adjustable FPR, I have not yet checked to see if the E16 fuel rail fits the C16/14 inlet

I have given up researching using the Z16 unit as I'm going a different route.

Sorry should have said the c14 is out of an astra and I have had it running in a nova I used to hillclimb was just thinking it may be a bit more susceptible to a cam change
I'm trying to use the best of what I have
As an idea I have 2 e16 1c14 a striped z16 with snaped belt
Kent ast 1 and piper 285 cams

I'd stick to your first plan with Z16 bottom end and E16 top end and inlet.
