redtop not starting

My redtop won't start today, started fine yesterday

I have removed the plugs, all are covered in petrol and the fuel pump is making it's noise.

With each plug out one at a time, 1 gave a strong spark, 2 didn't at all, but a few minutes later did, 3 was ok but not as strong as 1 or 4. A few minutes later (could be fuel evaporation?) they all gave a good strong spark.

The battery wasn't great so I ran jumps leads from another car...no joy.

Any ideas? I though if there is fuel and spark, that should be it?

do you have anysort of immobiliser fitted?

check all the inlet around the sfi box donut for any leaks, could also be a afm problem

What's afm and is the sfi box the thing the air filter goes to?

yes its got sfi on top of it unless somone has fitted a powercap the afm is the bit inbetween airfilter and the sfi box

I removed the air filter and hose (afm?) to look at the cam belt, it did start after this but, what am I looking for if this is the problem?

It has a powercap fitted, how do I check for leaks?

try the water temp sensor at the front.

One of the wires on mine failed and it caused a similar problem.

Marc mine had the same problem on a coilpack engine, it was the ignition amplifier that was fried.

Thanks, i got it to start today, after much looking around the powercap, there was an electrical wire in the mechanism for the throttle, I moved this and tried again.

it coughed a few times which was promising.....left it for 10 mins incase of flooding, turned the key and of it went.

I'll try it every day to see if that's it, is that likelly to have been the problem, meant the throttle wasn't fully shut.

Also what is a power cap? Aside from the name..

instead of having a big black box with sfi wrote on it its more compactand is suppose to give a couple of extra horses
