View Full Version : Is there supposed to be something under here?

Hi,

No idea what this bit's called, the grille under the windscreen... but is there supposed to be something under it, a tray? to catch water that goes through? (I'm new to Nova's!).

There's large drain holes in the inner wings, but surely when washing the car it's going to fill up!

Thanks,
John

Hi and welcome. It lets water in to rot the battery tray.:roll:lol its a common thing

There is normally a mesh fitted but nothing to stop water getting through, as it's basically the air feed for the blowers.

Thanks :) So it's just by design, I'm not missing anything?

I think there is a mesh grill that comes in 2 pieces that goes under that. Normally find leaves etc stuck in them but still allows water through.

Ah ok, anyone got a pic? I'm thinking of building a channel under it.. black guttering or something perhaps.

Why exactly? All the other millions of novas haven't had a problem with it as its supposed to be

the battery tray rots out for the simple reason of people not fitting sealed batteries in as the factory did.... the later novas had a plastic tray to direct any spilt battery acid into the rh inner arch.

i'd love to see the hosepipe that could flood out that part of a nova....lol

Scuttle panel :)

Apparently this is the mesh that sits under it:

I got the impression it was a rot area but if its just because of battery leaks well that's fine.

Richz_nova - can u pm me how much please, be cool to have them in to stop pesky leaves and erm, worms getting in :P

I hate the mesh, always remove it!

If I had it, I'd keep it. Stops leaves and other such cack getting in there and trapping damp.

yeah the MK2 had a plastic battery tray....which trapped moisture...causing the tray to rot lol
