Hi guys I'm just after a little advise the turbo is just after going on my mk4 astra gsi it's covered just 100k and the turbo has been getting smokey. On Friday it started to make a wierd whirring noise so it's finally died.

So my question is is it worth my while getting it rebuilt as I don't want to spend too much on it I can have it refurbished for around 300 and the vxr unit is around 700

Will my own after a refurb last as long it's only a standard gsi so not looking for huge power thanks

if it can be reconditioned by a decent specialist with a warranty, then it will be just as good as a new one.

That's what I had thaught just wanted to see if any one had any info on having any refurbed it will come with 1 year waranty have used this guy before on hdi and tdi turbos and were perfect just not any thing like the gsi I'm sure the core is much the same as some other turbos

turbos are turbos. some people try to make out that diesel ones are somehow inferior to petrol ones, but i think this is a ploy to sell new units.... the imprezza used the exact same turbo as the old mitsubishi L200 pickup.

Exactly it's still only a mechanical component so I think I'll have it refurbed take a chance on it as I'd lake to do some other small mods on it instead of just a turbo Maybe a front mount and cat back exhaust

Your being ripped off if you've been told it's £700 for a VXR unit

There £490 from Courtenay, cheaper if you know someone at vauxhall I would of thought

Are the z20let turbo units not a sealed unit? meaning they cant be rebuilt because you cant get to the seals etc. Sure ive read that many a time?

I got a brand spanking VXR turbo from a vauxhall main dealer for £369. There was a £100 surcharge on my old unit so i suppose it was £469 but still better than 700

sorry i was talking euros im in ireland is over 700euros for a vxr turbo here 369 pounds its cheap tho but will you still get the refund of the deposit by returning a let one

also ive removed my turbo this evening and has a crack in the waste gate to so looks like ill have to replace rather than rebuild

What is exactly different with the vxr turbo?

I'd like to no the same thing actually I thought the let had a k03 turbo but having removed it it's a k04 so not sure of any real difference but has held up for 100k so they can't be too bad really

I returned my LET one and got my 100quid back so happy days there. It might have been a special offer come to think of it, came from a vauxhall dealership in goole i think.

My manifold is also cracked along the waste gate so don't think it's worth refurbing don't think it can really be repaired

He works on exchange basis, so he'll send you a different unit
