Err hello, guessing if its a disabled chariot, why not just put it into 'N' which you can do whilst driving along as ive done it before in a renault laguna funnily enough, what an utter load of shat!

I'm more impressed that a Laguna could maintain WOT in top gear for so long. lol

They should jail that knacker imo. Even IF the car somehow too over and prevented all attempts at stopping it (brakes burning out makes enough sense) or IF the disabled (hand?) controls were at fault and he was nothing but a passenger, none of that explains why upon finally running out of fuel, he crashed into a ditch, instead of just rolling to a stop?!

I'm going to guess that 'the steering wouldn't respond'. What we would know as a lack of power assistance due to non-running engine. The steering is still present, albeit heavy.

Devil car!!!

Says he had two epileptic seizures, err if he was prone to fitting then he shouldnt have been driving anyways should he?

Maybe they are referring to S.H.I.T.T, the electronic overlord who is in charge of all decisions made onboard the S.S Lagunaaaarggghhhh and not disabled matey himself.

iirc some newer car can lock the autobox into top when over a certain speed, also if it has one of those stupid credit card key affairs then it also might be locked in...

Not the first time a Laguna has done its own thing in France lol

Id have had my hand in the fuse box removing every fecker in there. Not before going for every button /lever to stop her.

The Laguna II does lock the card in place once its in, you should still be able to turn it off i wouldve thought, just seems fishy imo.

Threads like this have come up before, and ive shifted a laguna III into 'N' @ 50mph before, just to see if you could do it (lol)

It's the button only systems you need to worry about, although they are very safe in terms of software

No the auto boxes that don't have a gear selector stick, but have pnrd buttons instead.

Help, police, my GT4 is stuck at 150mph on the M5, plz give me an escort til my fuel runs out.

I reckon its worth a try lol

As for the renault. Bloody stupid if there's no way to shut the engine off in an emergency, or use a manually operated handbrake (ever wonder why the yanks call it an EMERGENCY brake...?!). Reliance on technology to do it all for you is ridiculous, there's far too much of it going on these days.

it sounds suspiciously like the story a few years back about some divot in a wagon heading south down the m1 & his speed limiter jammed so it was doing about 80.... in the end, he jammed it into the armco, but the rozzers chased him for 20 miles first.
the main difference was that his wagon was checked over & they found the retro fitted limiter was put on wrong... & then also the driver was ridiculed in the commercial motor magazine for not simply knocking it out of gear & pulling over, thus causing no crazy news story.

re the laguna.. i wonder if it had some strange hand control stuff??
