Toggle switch would be best idea mate
Wiring would be tricky though. There's a bunch of wires going to it and I'm sure the indicators etc depend on it.
Yeah, its not a simple on/off style switch so replacing it will take a bit of wiring effort. Can't be that hard though.
IIRC didn't baxter look at changing one to a toggle switch years ago?
[edit] Easiest option would be to swap to a Mk1 button and relocate that somewhere maybe?

In my 1.4 track car with no dash board, it was held belos the steeringwheel with a cable tie, no problems for MOT

Could I put the switch behind the dash and run a separate rocker acting as a kill/live switch. Sorry if this sounds stupid.
I want to run gauges were the middle vent/clock and hazard is

if you change the switch you'd need the indicator tell tails to flash as the button it's self flashes normally so with out that it'd fail an mot

Below the steering wheel I meant and it was a mk2 also so would definately be the easiest option for you to just move the switch

Iirc the switch is also a relay for the indicators? Take it out and try your indicators and they just stay on i think? I could be wrong though

your right
Why not just leave it where it is? Saves alot of messing about.

Where's the fun in that. Might have to just build the gauges around it.
look at baxters guide here

I used a mk2 Astra one in a calibra with male and female crimps as they go into the wiring plug and also onto the switch, add wire in between and mount it anywhere
