Hoping someone might help me out

I have a load of original DVD's, films, TV series etc

I want to rip them on to my external hard drive so i can watch them, and box them up then up in the loft

Can anyone recommend me a program that can do this ?

I'm guessing this aint illegal as you rip music to Media player, iTunes etc

Any help would be great as the mrs wants them out the way last year sometime lol

i find it easyer and quicker to download a film or a tv episode off a torrent site than find it lol

yes i do too with new stuff that comes out

even with unlimited usage with Sky broadband, i think they might ask question if i downloaded 300GB+ of films etc lol

When I tried handbrake it split the film into 3 files which made it a ball ache when trying to watch them back.

No idea. I've not upgraded my handbrake for many years as functionality started going missing.

is much quality lost when ripping it to MP4 ?

thinking i might prefer one that does AVI

not sure if i can play MP4 through XBox or not ?

Depends on your outlook on life and how much of a pervert you are with image quality lol.

Also the settings are variable.

I think Super can do DVD ripping (as it can do pretty much everything else bar bake you a cake lol) but I've never tried it for that.

Thanks but I'm with Stuart on this one, I've used also handbrake for years and only just upgraded recently. All mine are mp4 now which I drag into iTunes to watch via Apple TV or on my phone (or iPad if I had one) if need be.

Is it still near real time ripping? :(

I h'actually prefer .mkv as a file container over avi/mp4 now as the quality is better and you have built in subs..

I used to rip a lot of dvd to avi, but the aspect ratio was always a PITA imo, but easier to acquire them now :)
