I need to fit my oil cooler to my 1600 8v. I was wondering where people have routed the hoses. Im feared that the pipe will be too close to the exhaust.

Any pics of peoples installs would help a heap.

just take the pipes out via the lh side. ask at a hydraulic shop if they do bent metal pipes, if not, ask where they get them done, then you can have OE style ones done with clever bends etc.. & they are not too much money either

by lhs do youn mean drivers side?

do i run it along the front valance then up to the drivers side of the rad?

well, i guessed you were fitting a sandwich plate on the filter, so imho, running the pipes out to the lhs, nearside or passenger side would avoid running anywhere near the exhaust, then run them thru 180 degress & to the oil cooler

mowgli the problem ive got is i cant get the hoses between the rad and the pas side chassis leg. ill have to run it along the front of the car to the other side of the rad where there is a gap between the rad and the chassis leg. there is not much space between the manifold and the rad and am worried it will heat the pipes up too hot. has anyone else had this problem.

is there a decent pic anywhere of the group A setup?

Cheers but I've got the build manual it's not in it. The illustration of the engine and cooler is no help.

How do you know you need a cooler?

The oil is getting really thin (and hot) when it's driven hard.

I can't see it doing any harm since I have a thermostat in the sandwich Plate.

Do you know exactly how hot?.....

you dont need one.
Even a gte JR (joyrider edition) never had one so dont panic

If there going to be any side effects of running a oil cooler without a thermostat?

Thinking of putting one in line with relocation kit when I fit the turbo stuff

overcooling of the oil will cause it to thicken, which is not so good in a hot engine.....if you must run a sandwich plate, run it with a thermostat.. then be careful to drain it & refill it on oil changes so you don't airlock it. the groupA manual even states that after a rebuilt, pack the oil pump with (vaseline) grease before starting so it primes it.

the metro turbo used a water cooled sandwich plate.. i have one in the shed

ps. at running temp, engine oil is meant to be thin as piss.....

110deg C max for most engines and oils.

Do you guys reckon I should run a oil cooler on my 1300 turbo set up?

Stuart

I'd not fit one, but put temp tabs everywhere on the sumo etc to see if its needed.

mowgli

no. unless you go for 150+hp

Edd

I am aiming for 150bhp

Power != heat dumped not the oil lol

you can always add one if you use stu's method & decide you need one.

if you need to do a remote filter setup anyway, you could use metal pipes & let them cool the oil

I'd run a 10/60 oil and just keep an eye on temps.... If you have temp problems with 10/60 then something is royally wrong with the engine.

Cheers guys, keeps the initial cost down lol
