hello.. i am new to this site.. normally a migweb guy alough i have been out of the vauxhall scene for a good few years.. anyway i have a nova 1300 engine in the garage that i bought almost 10 years ago.. i am usure if it has got anything done to it but i have been looking at a rebuild kit form http://www.allittmotorsport.co.uk/nova1300.html.. when i bought the engine it had twin 40's on it but in haste i sold them and the inlet manifold.. kicking myself now. so i am wondering if i was to put the standard carb and manifold back on what should i be looking for carb wise as i have no idea about them and have no parts at the min, i dont want twin 40's or bike carbs just looking for a standard carb or maybe something slightly uprated on a standard manifold? any advice on them will be great.. cheers lads.. i have the feeling this thread will be the first of many lol.

providing the cylinder head hasnt been modified when those twin carbs were installed, your 1300 has cathederal shaped inlet ports engine side as standard.

youll be wanting a 1.3SR inlet manifold, that has cathederal shaped ports to match the cylinder head of the engine.

standard fitting on those manifolds was the pierburg 2e carburettor.
if your lucky you can find both going as a package on ebay or this forum.
i think they sell together for about 60 boys ? condition depending.

dont get the 1.4 manifold with pierburg 2e mixed up, they look the same, but have different inlet ports (rectangular shaped).

if you want something abit more sporty, you can get an adaptor plate for the 1.3SR manifold so you can fit a weber 32/34 carb, which is considered a better carb by most, but they cost a fair bit more.

youll need an air filter too.
standard vauxhall dustbin lid type will fit straight onto the pierburg 2e.
you can also get another adaptor plate for the 32/34 carb to run the same airbox.
or you can fit K&N / pipercross replacements, but cost more.

hope that helps :)

first one i found on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1300-Vauxhall-Inlet-Manifold-Nova-Stockrod-Autograss-/230921589061?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3 D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D5429270793138529876%26pid%3 D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D230921589061% 26

and a picture of the cathederal shape to check against yours :

That helps a lot.. Thankyou. My inlet ports are that shape and I seen that manifold on eBay. So might have to start spending lol. Are the adaptor plates east enough to come by if I was to go for the better carb? Just out of curiously what power do these engines make? Thanks again. Andy

check on here and migweb forum before you ebay, you might get lucky and find a 1.3 manifold complete with pierburg or a 32/34.
the adaptor plates on their own, not sure. i wouldnt have thought THAT hard to come by, but im not sure on price or availability.
if youve got decent metalwork skills, you could probably knock one up with a bit of imagination

I work in a engineering firm so fabrication wouldn't be an issue if they are simple enough to make.. I think I will just keep my eyes peeled for a complete setup.. I have the engine to rebuild before I need them anyway.. Oh and a car to put it in lol... I like the idea of a old school small block revving its chebs off :)

your right gary! i only just noticed the diamond shaped mount points, im just crap arent i ...

It's probably the larger Varijet carb that gives it the edge, apparently they are good for 125 out the box.

Just out of curiosity.. My mate gave me a carb.. He has no idea what it's off and it's in a manifold but we have no clue... It has weber 20-19 stamped on it... I take it that this is way too small?

/\ please post a pic of the carb & manifold.

at a push, a carb & manifold off a 1.2 carb nova will work pretty well. i had one on a hi compression 1400 & it coped, but a twin choke pierburg would be better, or even a weber conversion on a 1300 sr manifold. but they are getting rarer by the day.

as for the rebuild kit, what is wrong with the engine?? does it just need refreshing? ie. new rings & gaskets?

I will post a pic up of the carb in the morning as I am on my phone on nightshift. I have a feeling that its off a fiesta 1300 but can't confirm this.. As for the rebuild I have always wanted to do one but never had the chance.. I seen the engine and thought.. Bugger it am going for it lol.. I personally have never ran the engine.. I bought it for the carbs really..

ok, well when you are ready to strip it, start a WIP thread & it will be a good learning experience for lots of people.
