View Full Version : Turning fogs?

So what with these new cars where the fog light comes on when they turn the wheel, it's ****ing stupid imo!

John

Active cornering lights, supposed to help with illumination on tight corners. Only works on most cars when "auto" lights setting is selected (well it does on the wife's seat)

It looks stupid as well as people driving with only sidelights and fogs at night

Crap idea dont really do much and also look crap IMO

Jack

Glad someone else has noticed, I just thought it was gash wiring faults to start with lol

Its ridiculous. Surely the lights are foglights, so you're breaking the law by having them on when its not foggy?

Iain

I agree it looks daft, when you see someone come round a corner with a fog on then it fade out, as if its gonna do anything at all for visibility

06-02-13, 04:18 PM
as daft as the driving lights on lots of new cars coming out, if you cant see someone coming down the road because they dont have sidelights on you shouldn't be driving

Jack
06-02-13, 04:32 PM
DRLs are also ridiculous, the stupid LED ones are so bright it masks the size of the car

the old origanl citreon ds has headlights that turn with the steering wheel so it isnt just new cars

John

It needs to be speed dependant imo, so it cuts off after say 15mph. Driving at night with fr fogs and only sides is just unsafe.

Stuart

Drls are great as they let you be seen......

Legally the drl can be brighter than a main beam (dipped beam for old ****ers) but no less bright than sidelights.

We used to get loads of people coming in saying they had a light out or had been told by other people they had a light out. Ignorance & crap handover by salesman don't help.

I saw an Audi last night stationay in the middle of the road facing me, I slowed as a precaution. I did not see until I was within a few metres of the car that they had actually got the indicator on. The lights were that bright & indicator poorly placed in the lamp unit I could not see it!?! Nice one Aldi!

different thing, on that the headlights turn and with this the inside foglight as your turning corners comes on

Bingo.

One fog light coming on has only been around for the last 4/5 years though afaik. I think Mercedes started it. Bloody stupid.

You should get a £15 fine every time one comes on when driving conditions don't require it. lol

****s that stop on the opposite side of the road and leave their dipped beam on, usually with front fogs and sometimes if you're lucky, full beam too really grind my gears.

I drive right up to them and give them a dose of everything I have. It's funny when I am parking up and said wrong-side of road clampet has the lights on, so I flash and get ignored, then whack everything on and very rarely do they realise what I am requesting.

One woman sat there shielding her eyes lol

Pricks sitting in queues on the footbrake piss me off too. Especially when the car has LED tail lights.

I do this lol.

In my defence though my car is an auto, and in traffic I will not be putting it into P/N with handbrake after moving for 10 feet at a time. Auto boxes are designed sit in D with your foot on the brake in these situations afaik. :)

So there :p

Edit - only cnuts use fog lights when it isn't REALLY foggy.... And even then the front ones are useless anyway.

I do it too when I drive an auto. lol

No reason for all of these little Korean sh!tboxes to do it though. Just another example of laziness and not being aware/caring about those around you imo.

All it takes is a glance in the rear view mirror and you can clearly see (when dark) that you are lighting up the interior of the car behind and blinding the driver.
There's some reet knackers on the road! lol

People who make the concious decision to turn on front fogs are strange ones too - even weirder if they rock the rears too. In my car, I have to switch the lights from auto to dipped, and pull out the switch. Once for fronts, then further out for rears. As soon as I switch the lights off, or back to auto, the fogs are cancelled.

So why do I see so many Mondeos driving like this? :/

A lot of this modern day rubbish annoys me. All cars have day time running lights, but old cars have a little switch that lets your turn them on an off when you want - the lights are side lights!

Old cars also have stop/start... called a key! I always turn the engine off at the lights if I know the junction has many lights or the sequences are long. Simple flick of the key starts it up in an instant, even the Novas.

It's a load of non-sense to get more money out of you due to fashion... IMO that's all it is, fashion. Anyone here had problems turning at night so much so that you need fogs to come on? Further more what use are fogs in daylight? Adaptive forward lighting is better if you really need it. (lamps that turn a few degrees left or right with steering).

I hate people who turn without indicating and sit with their foot on the brake

Modern cars make people lazy. Isn't it a current Focus that can park itself? Great, til the driver gets out and into a cheaper car that doesn't have that tech and POW, there goes the front of my car somewhere into their rear bumper as they try to negotiate a simple parking maneuver.

Plus people tend to learn in cars only about 2-3 years old at best, which IMO are generally easy to drive. Guy at work t'other day was telling me about how his daughter just passed her test in a new car with one of those silly button handbrakes - she has no concept of how to operate a proper 'old-style' (lol) handbrake!

nah, shonky fords with naff wiring have been doing it since the mid-80s lol

Oh another thing that annoys the funk out of me is people with one (or both) headlight misaligned. Generally, if you're unsure, the fact that you're illuminating the headlining of the car in front kinda implies your headlight aim isn't set up right...

I completely agree with this thread.

I have AFL's on the Meriva VXR, they do make a huge difference for pulling in/parking or turning.

However turning the front fog lights does not have the same light output as AFLs and IMO wouldn't help lighting up corners etc.

Yeah I tend to put my head lights on whatever time of day/weather it only makes you more visible. Don't certain volvos have lights on all the time?

The scandinavian countries have had the concept of daytime running lights for, ohhhhhh , ever lol

I know most of you lot love the oldness of novas, but adding in functionality (to a certain extent) to new cars that make things a little safer/better on the wallet (if you are buying a new car anyway, buy the one that will hurt least in running costs for that type etc) isnt really the end of the world.

There are lots of extra features that are almost pointless/killing off driving craft but they are thankfully in their minority for now.

I don't mind day running lights as such, like my dads S Class has HID dipped beam on all of the time. It doesn't blind, and is very visible imo.

Having 20 superbright LED's in your headlamps is just overkill though. As someone else said, sometimes you can't even see the car indicating because of it.

IMO we should never have had DRL's introduced here (the non-Volvo offensive type).
I can't remember the last time I nearly hit a moose or anything else that the Scando's experience. Lol

That boils my piss, the foot brake/brake lights are to slow to a stop/tell people behind that youre stopping.

You arent 'stopping' when youre stationary, so take your foot off the fooking pedal and stop telling me that youre stopping, there is simply no excuse even in an auto (nine out of ten times when i stop, i dont apply the handbrake and lo, the vehicle doesnt roll away) so why do you need the brakes on, youre supposed to take it out of gear and apply the handbrake, even in an auto, i always used to knock it into 'N' when driving auto cars for work, then just click it into 'D' when youre off, no handbrake needed, or overuse of brake!

Hell ive seen loads of learners (yes learners) sitting on the biting point at lights, or with their foot on the brakes, wtf, they wont pass a test like that!

John
