2mm is too thick. 1-1.5 is adequate, anything thicker and its a pig to work with especially to cut and form.

In this country we have more than hand tools at our disposal my friend. :)
Depends if there is anything to weld to I suppose lol

im sure you do, but just because you have a steam hammer in your workshop it doesn't mean that its sensible to make them out of 4" solid forged lumps of MS

ye thats what i go for.
if you're on a budget, take some tinsnips to an old roof panel. Its a pain cleaning it up before you weld but its a good cheap source of flat clean metal.

In all fairness it was just seam sealered to death then painted.
You couldnt see the rust til you poked around so the tester wouldnt have had any cause for concern regarding rust in the areas it was abysmal lol

That hole was filled with seam sealer painted grey, you can see the rest of it running behind the strut/inner wing, it was cracked all the way along and smeared over with sealer and painted:eek:

There was about ten months mot left on that car when i stripped it!
Andy, it was a bent mot, i was told by Rob the night i bought it, if it says a certain name on the mot slip then its a backhander, and oh look, theres the name he mentioned!
And as Southie said, it had four sills welded over each other on the drivers side as me and porter found out when we fitted the lowering springs and put a trolley jack through the sill/floorpan at the drivers side rear!

I did ponder that, and i posted in my build thread about it, but as Lewis pointed out, the car wouldve had to have gone back to the place in scunny that tested it, so that vosa could come and retest it/them, as the engine was out by the time i posted the pics, there wasnt much point as they couldnt/wouldnt do anything about it!
Im just glad that i had the sense to buy it/break it, and it didnt end up someones family car or worse still, end up in a crash, it wouldnt have performed at all well:eek:
Im pretty certain ive read that chassis legs front and back are 1.6mm

You dont want it too thick as energy from a rear end shunt will transfer to the next available weak point, the floor! I would rather the boot floor and rear section of the legs crumple and absorb any impact.
