I got myself a set of 4 dial sr clocks and was wondering what ampage the tachometer (rev counter) wire needs to be as it come straight off the coil. also is there any other wires to fit?

what do you mean?
wires arent measured in 'ampage' its cross sectional size, diameter, length, or resistance.
use the same diameter wire as whats fitted, its on the low tension side of the coil anyway, something about .75mm would be fine.

thanks, I'm rubbish with electrical stuff, don't suppose you know which one of these is the actual tachometer terminal?

Or if you are Italian, you fit whatever you want and hang the consequences lol

italian wiring is always poor. All inspired by spagetti and made from the lowest grade copper and the hardest most brittle insulation they can find.

*Meanwhile, at the Maserati factory...
"Err here. Here is OK." lol
Get some thin-wall cable like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Automotive-wire-vehicle-cable-kit-11A-11-colours-x-5m-/320424560671?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4a9acac81f

Its getting marginally better in places, a little step at a time..... They still dont 'get' Current ratings though lol

They are mark 2 clocks - you need mark 1 (unless of course you are fitting a mk2 dash?)
The wiring plug is different on the mk2 clocks as are the mountings, and mk1 also has a spade terminal at the back of the rev counter than you run a wire to the coil from.
On the mk2 clocks pictured the rev counter runs off the main wiring plug (and is the pale green wire that goes into the plug)

ah, that explains a lot. so is there no way of boding these in? or am I going to have to find a set of gte/sr clocks instead?

It's probably easier to source the mk1 clocks

just buy a face lift car to match your clocks

If you've got the plugs of a MK2 loom then just swap the wiring.
The Mk2 dialset has a 14 pin connector, whilst the Mk1 only has a 12 pin connctor. So if you want to use Mk2 dials on a Mk1, you need to chop in the Mk2 connector block.
This diagram may also prove handy for people wanting to splice their wires onto Cavalier dials.

Note:
1. Poverty spec Mk2 dials don't have a contact for Pin 7 (tach) on the back.
2. On the Mk1 dialset, Pin 12 connects to both Brake Fluid Warning and Handbrake On Warning. Whilst the Mk2 has separate lamps for these, the Mk1 uses one lamp for both, but still has TWO cables.

I'm just gonna sell the clocks as it's not only wiring them but fittings are different too

I would be inclined to do the same - the angle of mk2 clock facias is slightly different so even if you splice in the wiring they never would look quite right.

Also the mk1 clocks look better with 6 working needles :)
