2 litre diesel is a strong good engine

dont buy one, they are a heap, my mother bought one new in 2008, was in dealers more than she drove it, and heard so many horry stories about them

Had a 118d Coupe from new, never a days problem with it.
Get a diesel unless you are going 6 cylinder as the 4 cylinder petrols are not the most powerful engines.
123d is awesome if you can stretch to it, 200bhp twin turbo :)

Ultra reliable comfortable motors jeff..... I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a 118/120d to you or as rich says 123d if your feeling flush would be awesome! ;)

Nick.

I had a 123d as a demo for 5-6 months, didn't want to give it back :(. It was one of my two favourite demos, the other was a last off the line fully specced up E46 Coupe 320d M-Sport.

My girl has a 1 series and loves it. She has a 116d Sport and travels some distance to work. She swears by the diesel economy and the drive comfort however she has had a bad experience in the winter but she has recently bought dunlop winter 3D sport tyres and now can move in snow/ice/heavy rain like it is a dry day. For me, the car interior is not designed well - you have to put your arm in an awkward position to operate the electric windows. lol

Is it a 5 door?

Are you very short then? I am about 6ft and where I sit they are perfectly positioned. With my arm on the armrest my fingers naturally drop onto the switches.

5ft 8" but I find them a little awkward compared to the MK5 Golf. :thumb:

My wife's a time bandit at 5 foot 4lol I've never owned a diesel but the 5 series diesel I drove year ago really made me rethink them. She only travels 6 miles in town to work and back but everyone seems to rave about the BMW diesel in particular so it makes sense. Lots of the owner reviews I read on auto trader mentioned things get expensive when they play up.

I think it will a 2008 one judging by the prices and I'll skip the 116d then.cheers all, Jeff

Not enough miles for a diesel, could damage the dpf with those low miles

As long as it gets a decent run every now and then, which im sure it will, it should be fine

I have a 123d too. Unfortunately, I had the dreaded timing chain issue that lots of the n47 engines have... Awesome car though, just get a later one, as they sorted the cranks out post 2010

It'll get a good run/blast when I'm in it and we always go out weekends for a run.

Was it a warranty job Will or did you have to stump up for it? It might be better if I out this on hold till I can afford a 2011 one then:(

I'm guessing this was the large bmw bill you posted on facebook Will?

Yep - it came in at just shy of £4500. Luckily I had a third-party warranty that covered 75% of it and the garage I bought it from paid the rest!

I only had it 3 weeks before it started to rattle! lol

You can buy a decent BMW warranty for £50 per month. Just do that if you get a pre 2010
