I'm after what I think is a dim dip relay, however any search for such a thing returns only high/low beam relays.
What I want is a relay that will power a 55w lamp with a reduced voltage so it illuminates but with a greatly reduced light output (like a lot of 80's cars had when running on side lights, including my Nova) what else are such things known as? they must still exist! lol

I believe you are making it up... Now you could build something to do the job with a relay and a big ass resistor.

do elaborate Mr Stuart

12V in, switched to two outputs, one has a resistor inline to the bulb, the other is direct to the bulb.

Job done.

use a nova one then, golfs and a lot of over 80s stuff had them

Just did a google search, top of the page

Some Novas did come with them (my old saloon did). IIRC they're a relay mounted on or by the under dash shelf. Most people don't know what they are though lol

they fitted them from about f reg onwards to all cars as a legal requirement.. oddly enough, they aren't an mot requirement though???

No 15 in this CLICKY (http://ecat24.com/opel/catalog/part/1/14/569/2067/19635,19628,19634,19633/) was what I had on my old MK1

Yup my GTE had the unit but it didn't work lol

As jack says, mounted on the shelf under the dash on the RH side

Same with a lot of things though lol

Wasn't the dim/dip thing brought in by the government (in the UK), similar to the current EU DRL regs? But the EU told them off and fined them for it?

Dan I looked at the Nova one, Mine does work, but it has about 68365826 wires going to it, and somewhere in my mind was still the nagging little voice saying it was all dreamed up lol and the one in your link, how on earth do I wire up the 7 connectors? lol
