Hi
Hopefully somebody might be able to help. Im starting hillclimbing this season in a redtop powered nova, my problem is i need to find out if they ever made a production nova using the same engine block as i have fitted. It doesn't have to be english, it can be from anywhere in the world. If they did make one i will be in the modified 2.0 class againt escorts etc, if they didn't i will have to go in the sports libre class against twin bike engined single seaters ( don't think i will have a chance!!).
If anybody could help with any information it would be much appreciated.
Cheers Dino
Nope, the nova NEVER had a big block as standard.

No such thing as a production line 2.0 engine Nova, no matter what internet myth you may see. You may want to think about a different kind of racing, or different engine if you want to hillclimb.
Its well worth checking out this hillclimb nova for ideas: http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?132042-985cc-Turbocharged-Nova-Sprint-Car
you can basically go as big as a 1.6 block( e16se/c16se), then in some classes, fit a 16v head & pistons..
You could use a 1800 baby xe

Hi, was the 1.8 baby ex the same block as the 2.0? all that ive been told is the engine block has to be as per production, i can change anything else.
Nope baby xe is the same block as all that nova ohv engines

So it was a 1.6 with a bigger bore/stroke?
I recall them being same bore but longer stroke but dont quote me on that

Hi, nova production line was 1.0 - 1.6 .. Could use a 1600cc xe engine (as per told)
But I would defo, re-think the engine (but im no hillclimb expert, sadly)
Check the link, contact the owner and ask for advice on engine parts
Like size block, what head to use and stuff.
Listen to all thats said, cuz these guys have helped me with plenty of info on my lil project.
Good luck with hillclimbing car too, would be ace for it to come together mate
you could use the crank & pistons from a 1.8 baby xe, but it needs putting into a c16se bottom end. then you need the 1.6 baby xe head on it. the x18xe1/z18xe block is a different shape & i think a scrutineer would pick up on it.
colin smith uses a 1200 carb block sleeved down to 985cc, then uses a turbo. his car has been massively developed over the years.
if you can find a decent 1.2 spi block, and can find a decent 1200st crank, then get it offset reground -40thou to about 61mm stroke, you will get under the 1.0 capacity. then with a decent head & turbo, you will be in the up to 1400 class. it has the potential for 200+hp, but will take a lot of good thought to make it work.
