Well what can one say !!! :wtf: Top Gear I used to love it and now it's for 2 to 11 year old with low intelligence when they say winter tiers are only good of 1 day a year then you know they have only interest in viewing figures, well they just lost one.

Stuart
27-01-13, 09:01 PM
To be very fair, over here they are only 'really' of use for a few days.... if that, to get out of your housing area and maybe to some country lanes.

Rallying a Bentley? :wtf:

I hope when they eventually gte the GT86 on there they do a decent report on that and not some cocking-about pre scripted skit.

Sorry Stuart and there in lies the problem they are not only for snow and ice they are called winter tires not snow tires summer rubber goes hard below 7 degrees and no longer works good wet/dry/snow/ice winter tiers have a different compound and chemicals and block patten in them so the work in ALL weather conditions better under 7 degrees far better than any summer tier, and I speak from over 20 years of using them they DO make a BIG difference in all cold driving weather and not just snow and ice.

The winter tyre sales at work have gone mad this year , some people even have gone and got another set of wheels so they can just swap them over when there not needed .

I would recommend the hankook ice tyre .

We have snow for 2/3 days here maximum, therefore a set of tyres for this time isn't justified

Utter crap. I have driven with them on the BMW and they feel not much different to summer tyres in grip.

But Edd, they are not JUST for snow. The water dispersion is much better than summer tyres. Going by last year then they were useful for about 10 of the 12 months!

I did exactly this. Got a new set of genuine BMW alloy wheels for £150 and a set of premium brand runflat winters for £250. Best £400 I have spent and I will make a profit on them if I sold them, even used.

I guess a shade more torque/power through them than the BMW can deliver is enough to make the Summers more preferable than the winters unless its very sub zero or snowy.... The winters and Summers are both dire on ice as expected though.
That said, they seem to help on 'normal' cars.

phunkynova
27-01-13, 09:46 PM
Sorry Stuart but how many hours have you done driving on ice as I must disagree with you on that point and I put forward many years of driving on ice as evidence in my case.

A set of winter tyres would cost more than my daily car lol so no point

I have never felt the need and doubt I ever will, been alright without them for 16 years of driving so think I'll cope tbh

If I had £500 I didn't know what do with and a daily car I give a fcuk about then maybe

Stuart
27-01-13, 09:49 PM
10 mins compare to you, but fact is the cars we have on summers and winters were no different on ice, in snow yes the winters did work better, and on dry cold roads the winters were significantly spongier and not pleasant to drive on. As I said, on a 'normal' low power (sub 250bhp) normal car im sure they are a treat.

I am sure 80-90% of cars on the road have less than 250bhp so yes, they will work a treat.

The wifes car is worth a fair bit and you also cannot put a value on someones life, especially a loved one. It may sound over the top but I am happier knowing she has the tyres fitted and more control over the vehicle in bad weather.

I am i the only one who thinks Clarkson should get a ticket for using his phone whilst driving / riding the P45?

Also, Pouring petrol into a bin, very stupid, and taking that P45 on the A3, very inconsiderate / dangerous.

What a load of crap.

Mc'rae was good, but i didnt think they needed to say that crashing the chopper was his own fault.

I very much doubt he put petrol in a bin, there was a change of camera shot between and you never actually saw him pouring it from the pump nozzle.

And it probably wasn't that bad on the motorway, he will have had a camera crew in a vehicle ahead of him, and probably a couple of other employees in cars driving around him.

Maybe not uncalled for, But definately hypocrytical, considering they had spent the last hour worshipping his driving style and mantra. We can all probably imagine how he liked to fly his helicopter, just dont think the comments were very well placed considering the access that the Mc'rae's had given the BBC to make the film.

And yeah, Ken Block is a knob.

Yes for the ticket. You/I would've got one for thinking about it.

The pouring of petrol... Looked more like apple juice if you ask me... And having driven the A3... Well...

I thought anything under a 125cc capacity wasn't allowed on a motorway??

The McRae program was good and although they had to acknowledge it, it wouldn't have made easy viewing for the family afterwards.

I still don't think he would have flown in a dangerous manner with kids in the back.

haven't you lot realised that the mcrae family are using colin's legasy as a means of earning a living for the whole family. i bet the crash ended up costing his estate a lot of millions & if they have to rent out the cars, they will.

chris hoy definitely enjoyed himself, but i can't imagine for a second he was hearing the pacenotes & actually driving anywhere near flat out at the end.

He said himself he was just gonna take it easy and enjoy himself as he didn't want to damage the car. Bit of a contradiction to "I'm going to learn to drive like McRae" though, driving like a nut and writing it off would have been a fitting tribute.

As for the helicopter comments, to be fair that's what was confirmed by investigations etc, I doubt Colin McRae's flying style was any different to his driving style and unfortunately it cost him his life as you can't often crash a helicopter and walk away. He was an absolute genius in a car and all geniuses have their flaws, his was combined in that there was nothing he didn't believe he could do and he had the courage to try it too. If he'd lived through that crash he probably would have tried whatever stunt he was pulling again, and succeeded!

Still a hero and a legend for everything he ever did in and around motorsport imo.

Adam

TG was the usual. The whole P45 thing got a bit boring.

As for McRae, legend indeed. It was definently all or nothing when it came to him.
And the helicopter part whilst not uncalled for they could of left it out of this particular program.
Everyone who has read about the whole helicopter thing will know McRae was basically "pissing" about and got caught out because of one thing or another.

My comment about it being a bit inaccurate is towards the footage of the cars, some cars featured that he didn't even drive, I'm mean c'mon there's enough footage if the guy to get it right,

Also I though L555 BAT was in a Glasgow museum?

As for the helicopter crash, sh!t happens in life, my boss crashed his helicopter less than 15 miles from where Colins went down, Bertie Fisher and his daughter and one of his sons all died in a helicopter crash too, even David Richards helicopter crashed very soon after Colin's accident,
Some folk live, some die.
The programme simply told the findings of the FAI ( coroners inquest )
