So for years i have wanted to do snowboarding, but i didn't for some reason, so this Christmas, the misses diced to give me some goggles an a hat and gloves as a present, then a ceramic post box (as im a postie) with break me wrote on it, it had money inside for snowboarding lessons..

So now Ive done my lessons and Ive been to the snow dome in Tamworth 3 times recreational, IMO Ive got to grips with quite quickly, but i did use to skate when i was younger..

So Ive already splashed out and got my own set up sorted, and Ive booked a holiday with friends for me and the missis in Kaprun at the end of March! i cant wait! :d

So i know Ste Lee boards, but do we have any others in here?

Heres my set up.

I used to. Had a pink palmer board with airwalk soft boots. Was pretty good until I twisted my ankle doing a jump and never got back on.

Should really have another go some time

well if you enjoyed twisting your ankle the first time then it would make sense to do it again.

I ski, don't like gays on trays lol

Only kidding, I started to ski when I was 9 and tbh although it is appealing to board I can't deal with all the bruises and learning now when I can just jump on my skis!

Will prob try the little mini skis this year though!!

See i have heard Skiing is essayer to learn etc, As boarding is hard to learn easy to master so im told!
But Skiing looks nasty to me, as when you bail your legs get twisted to feck! and Ive got a bad knee so not for me, OK so it took me a good 5-6 hrs to get to grips with the basics of boarding, but now im going good, carving like someone who's been on it for 6 months or more my mate said, i want to start learning ollies and grinds already! lol

Fact is as you get a bit older it does hurt more, but i got some crash pants to stop me repeatedly bruising my tail bone..

I'm still learning, it sucks that I can't get to go up north very much in the winter, cos when it snows I have to grit the roads so time off is difficult, I have my own boots etc but didn't buy a board as I'm not going often enough to justify it,

This was up at the cairngorms about 2 years ago, total whiteout and about -20 but epic fun

I know a lot of boarders and skiers (people that can do both) and they all sat boarding is easier!

Yes boarding will be more gentle in your knee!

i went on a public session at the snowdome, and skied. it was fun apart from the snowboarders...

when you ski, & fall over, you simply get up & carry on, but a snowboarder needs to attract the attention of the other snowboarders, shout that they just tried a 'dwight spenkman' (made up name but you get the idea) and the other snowboarders then yell 'whoa' like they are trying to stop a horse, then state how cool it was..... no, the prat fell over, i saw him fall over, he simply lost control.

i was on the snow for 2hrs, and easily covered about 4 times the distance that they did, and i also took my skis off to go back up the travelator...

and there is a rope lift on the other side, i was happily ascending when a snowboarder let go of the rope & came whistling down backwards towards me, so he got shoulder barged off the lift, i told him it was called a 'mike saunders'

you wouldn't put up with the same behavior if these people were in cars, or even walking down the street... they just want to emulate their computer game heroes.

I only snowboard due to damaged muscles in the groin, skiing causes to much pain and the risk of severe injury if I fall,

Boarding is far far safer for me

Boarding is safer for personal injury, knees and ankles etc.

Mowgli has hit the nail on the head, boarders are in the main selfish and intrusive on the slopes and lifts.

I tend to ski very fast near them and put in a sharp carve and cover them in powder! Only when they are not following the slope etiquette in a big way and it is safe for me to do so.

why is the plating stopping you??? just how much is still in there??

i ask cos i have 2 bolts, 2 small screws & a plate in my left knee, since jan 95 & apart from when the weather changes in the autumn, i don't have any trouble on it at all

I have Snowboarded in the past but for me dew to the injures I got in 1998 it is impossible to ski and the same goes my brother and he's not bad at it (Snowboarding).
Not all Snowboarders are bad mowgil

Well same applies that not all skiers are nice, or bother to think of others, but I can't be bothered to argue about it..

Ive done the learn to snowboard in a day at Milton Keynes. Picked it up real quick. Helped by the fact i did a 3 hour taster session at tamworth previously. Loved it. Want to go away. I chose boarding as it looked easier and marginally safer for my metal leg and dodgy knee!

Not Boarding, but here's mine and Tina's ski's - I absolutely love it, and tbh, I'd quite happily go live somewhere really cold! Norway and Finland were awesome

It has a dragonfly core, that's 500 independent laminates inside the core of the board...
See this guy who is almost in love with it: http://youtu.be/ImBqUFzSyps

Most of the boards run someyhing like a carbon beam inside the core nowadays.

I'm too old for boarding although I've always wanted to have a go. I've been skiing several times in my youth, the missus doesn't like the cold but I love it. As long as I don't have to grow silly hair, get piercings and chant like apes when other boarders fall, I'll have a go one day.

Thats an awesome boards for all mountain bombing, but us here in the UK don't get much chance for it, and yeah most new boards have carbon pop rods..

Do it dude, get your self either a bataleon Evil twin, or funkink, or a DC PBJ or Ply.
As you know ive only been doing it a year now, but im learning fast, and even though im not young im enjoying hitting features, make things so much more interesting, as up the lift down the slope is so so so boring god knows how skiers find that fun lol

Jeff, grow a beard, get some baggy gear on and do it! Anyone at any can learn, its so much fun its unbelievable, i wish id started 10 years ago now! Get Nicholas on a board, he'll love it, and you got no excuses, your close to both mk or hemel...

I wish i had the cash to go away this year, i cant wait to go abroad again as ive progressed loads imo, and i know I'll make the most of every second..

If i could id live in a country where I could board in the mountains and snow parks everyday!

I'll look into that boards Scott, currently ride a rome garage rocker it's great for all mountain not too bad on jumps but just can't butter with it properly!

Is there much places in England for boarding? On snow I mean? I live approx 70 miles or so from the biggest ski area in scotland so I get up most weekends which is cool.

what I used to love about skiing was the speed but it's just so much more fun on a board. Just can't beat carving down a run and hitting the jumps at the side!

i want to quit my job, move abroad and be a boarding bum lol

scott.parker
27-03-14, 05:38 PM
That rome board should be awesome, but Youtube the others i mentioned, wish I'd got a funkink back when i bought my dc focus, mines more of a budge bigger board and its toi heavy really..

Nope, nowhere in England, Scotland is the only outdoor place to board in the uk on real snow.

It's a great board just wish it was a tad more flexible. I was up 2 weeks ago wearing my brand new green trousers and a bit of oil from the chairlift dropped on them not came out :(

Ah i see, plenty of dry slopes etc though eh

Absolutely unreal week over hear in Courchevel, France. If you have never tried skiing I highly recommended it. Seriously hooked already! Will upload some pictures once I've sorted out some half decent ones.

Managed a top speed of 44.89 mph according to my ski tracks app and the mrs topped 50mph!!!

All I ever hear off my dad is about "during the war" when he was a ski instructor teaching british army youth newbs when my mum & dad lived in Bavaria back in the day (mid 70's).

And then get similar of Mrs's mum & dad as they both ski and all her dads mates board... not really my cuppa tea although can see the appeal as it does look good fun mind.
