View Full Version : What sort of power should I be getting from this??

I have a nova with a c20xe in... It has a standard rebuilt bottom end, has had the head ported and polished and all gas flowed, running piper fast road cams as with twin 45 weber carbs. All mated up to a f20 gearbox with a quaife LSD. All parts used including cams and carbs were brand new. Just wondering roughly what I should be hitting on a power run at the wheels or at the flywheel?

180ish hp IMO.
Depending who sets the carbs up.

140 to 240 depending on how good the headwork is and how high it's revving, probably get a better power band on 40's though.

As MK999 say's it's down to how good the work is on the head.

That's what I was thinking around 180 at fly will put it at around 150-160 at wheels? If I'm right in thinking that you lose about 15%??

too many variables to predict a power output that would be meaningful

depends on the quality of the ign control, the head work/porting, choke selection and tuning of the carbs.

Saying STD bottom end means some rather mild cams.

anything more than 180 at the fly is a lie.
and the losses arent linear, here is a graph of the losses for my VX when I had it on one of the few dynos I trust.

Losses vary with:
Ambient Temp
Tyre Temp
Tyre pressure
Tyre condition
Number of rollers
Ride height (driveshaft angles)
toe/camber etc
gearbox oil
gearbox condition
Engine mount condition
and many more
