View Full Version : Shakey, shakey
From 50 mph and over my steering wheel starts to vibrate? When I'm braking from speed, it realy shakes like fcuk!
My wheels were on the car when I bought it...
14" Vaux 'Lxi' wheels, i think they are called, they are showing quite serious scrubbage on the inner tyres? The car has been lowered 35-40mm.
So I took it to 'Kwik Fit' earlier and the bloke said the trackin is out by about 1mm + thas all. He said there is a 'tolerance' of 1mm and that it is not much bother realy. He sed 2 go back l8a in the week 2 be roll testd?
Also, when i floor it in first (with clutch fully up), then come off the 'gas' the car jerks like fcuk? Dodgy gearbox/engine mount?
Please help, its drivn me mental! :crazyeye:
Thanx

Dunno why he told you to go back and get it rolling? Your balancing on your wheels is out, any wheel or tyre place will sort this for you and it's about ?4 a wheel, get the balancing done on all four wheel before you do anything else!
Not sure about the clutch thing - sounds like your carbs could need tuning coz the engine mite be flooding making it jerk, I take it you cars a 1.2?
Ta m8. Cheaper than i thought. I think he wanted to roll test it "2 c what all the vibrations are". I aint leavin it with them 4 a day, they'll prob rag the tits off my car!
Nah its a 1.4 SR, the jerky-ness is quite 'violent', duno if thats the right word but there we are,lol

wait u mean lifting off the gas in 1st causes it to slow down quickly?
thats due to the engine braking effect being much stronger due to the high gear ratios and low vehicle velocity ;)
which is why u see spoofs of learner drivers bunyhopping the car along the road - they are going on and off the throttle in 1st
try it your self and youll see - dirve along at about 10 mph and tap the throttle peddle a few times youll see it jerks like fuck
Ohh....that mite be it then....that is sum fookin engine braking then! lol, jus gettin used to it i suppose! Thanx m8...u r wise...my worry is over.
What ur views on the scrubbin? ffs they are only 14s they shudnt scrub surely? Could it b that the wheels need balancing?

Mite be worth just to be on the safe side to go into a garage and say to them your skint and don't get paid for a month and tell them your problem, most places will give your car a quick look over for obvious things for nothing. If the garage says anything major is wrong then take to a few places and see if they all come up with the same problem (don't put words into their mouths either!) - Better to be safe init mate, don't want your wheels falling off at 80 mph however much fun that might be!
