I've just paid for a strut for my nova and realised that it might not fit over my engine. I've got a C14SE in mine, the seller says it was advertised to him to fit all novas but i want to double check before he posts it out.

This is the pic of it, i know the engine is a carb one there but i don't know if the bend in the brace will clear mine, cheers.

You're trying to fit it wrong mate, it goes from turret to turret.

The 16SE is very similar inlet to the 16SE isn't it? I bought one to suit a 1.6 and it was the straight type not the kinked type

I'd say it will fit with no problems if it's like the one in the pic

Both of them in the picture will fit, I have the Sparco one in the picture

That sounds promising then :)

lol Iain! I seem to remember my old one which fit the SE engines was straight, that's why i was a bit unsure of this.

The strut brace came yesterday and it doesnt fit :wtf:

Easily enough room over the inlet but the holes for the bolts dont match up at all and it isnt adjustable.

Also looks like it fits too far back as well

Would you say this is for a nova or it's for a corsa or something else? lol

Would make sense if it was for a corsa. I'll wait and see what the seller has got to say, either way it isnt fitting my nova Lol.

this would explain why he didnt show it lined up in the photo

The reason it wasnt lined up in the photo was because the Alloy brace I replaced it with was fitted. It fits fine was on my Nova for 18 months before I bought the alloy one. I'll try and find a pic to prove it.

I would say that yours isn't a Nova one as the design at the struts is completely different to mine. Also yours isn't adjustable...

On a usefull note, click the chassis measurement link in my sig, you'll find the measurement for between the strut tops to check and make sure it's not your shell that's iffy lol

That is one mint bay, but point proven, surely there isn't any difference in the shells?

My 2 pence for pic whoring

Very odd how it fits his but not yours though, I know the tolerances were crap on novas but I dont see that ever fitting on yours lee

It's about 15mm out, i could make it fit with a bit of drilling and chopping lol This is why adjustable ones are better so they can take into the slight differences in the shells.

Thats after a 300 mile endurance rally in very wet and muddy conditions!!!

Definetly could do with a clean lol

Just measured my struts from eachother is they are out. Should be 900mm but it's around 890mm.

There's no signs of any damage anywhere to my car. Im guessing the turrets have been replaced at some point and maybe welded in slighty off, is this likely do you think? Very strange really lol

Anyway i'll tell Dave that there's no need to refund now because it's 100% my fault and my stupid novas fault. I'll just make it fit with a bit of filing down, drilling some holes and filling the old ones in, will keep me busy anyway Lol.

My stupid novas fault lol I can almost garantee everyone on png says that weekly lol

L33 LEG
03-02-13, 02:05 PM
In any other car you would class it as quite a serious issue lol but with a nova it's just normal, most panel gaps are 10mm anyway from new so it's no big deal ha.

Quite odd though seen as there isnt any camber issues going on so unsure how it's got like that. I can only think that they have been replaced at some point.

this is why buying novas full of rust is safer
