i got it for xmas.. its full of the usual stuff, with some surprising facts & figures .
imo, all these books are never going to satisfy everyone, cos the author is expressing their own opinion..
its also amazing how many people bought the crap that BL made, i mean, why would anyone ever buy a marina instead of an escort mk1/2 ??????
If its 'best loved cars', wtf is a Fiat Uno doing on the cover lol

it lists popularity based on sales... unfortunately, they sold a lot of unos
Might be quick, but they're still shat. I had that shape Uno as a first car, it was rubbish even as a first car lol
Id class a nova and an uno in the same description, they were bought, stolen and written off/burnt out, owners couldnt afford better so just replaced them with the same again, so for every one that was bought, at least one more would have to be bought as a replacement for a stolen vehicle, thats the only reason i reckon sales were so high/they were so popular lol

Makes a nice change for Novas and other cars like it to be featured in a book of this kind. Most car books rave about the Golf and 205 and ignore everything else completely, sure they were great cars but its not like they were so much better in every regard that other hatches should be ignored. Seems these book authors just don't like Novas, bought into the chav image or just follow the standard opinions.

I saw this book in Debenhams when I was supposed to be Christmas shopping. Looked a reasonable read but couldnt justify buying it

You really need to stop taking them mind warping drugs and come back to planet Earth.
2wd beating a 4wd of the line YER LIKE NOT.
Exactly.if they were that good why didnt they touring car the uno? I mean it would havr killed steve soper in the cosworth?
Lmfao
the uno may well have been fast & tuneable, but i can't imagine many drivers wanting to take it on on a real sircuit, like spa, where they sierras were doing 175+mph on the straights.
i did go to a mini 30th birthday bash at donington, and the works rover v8 touring car was doing a demonstration race with a metro turbo racer, and the rover was not exactly getting away from it, and they sounded like they were on it, as opposed to showboating for the crowds
odd fact, steve soper raced proper mini's, metros, then an x1/9 with an uno turbo engine, then moved up to rwd touring cars...

Mowgli, where the hell do you get all this info? You must have a memory like an encyclopedia or something! Every thread you have a nugget of trivia for! lol
Im not having a dig, it makes me chuckle. I really do imagine you look like your avatar of the wise old uncle Albert! lol
take the beard off and it aint far off lol
seriously, i'm from the era of buying CCC magazines every month as the only means of learning about car tuning, the internet was a long way off, any i would read, & re-read these books. top gear was a boring tv show apart from the one week when they did the lombard RAC rally reports on primetime slots.. Steve soper was a columnist in CCC mag for years, so i ended up remembering lots of strange things from those old mags... i just wish i'd kept them all.
ps. i also do rather well on trivia quiz games....
take the beard off and it aint far off lol
who says i haven't got a beard??
lol lol lol @ a crapbox Uno beating a Pinto with a blower slapped on, classic bull turd lol
What next a Saxo 1.1 beating a Evo down a 1/4mile?
