View Full Version : tow strap pics
hey all, im after pictures of tow straps fitted to a nova and how its been done.
reason being, to get the car on my trailor i have to winch it on as i cant get out once its on there, the winch hook will damage my paint on my bumper so need an extension, e.g the tow strap.
i would like it if i could attach it to the hook on the car rather than cutting it off, i dont want it to look gash once attached. making a slice in the hook on the car, sliding on the strap (minus the fixing bracket) and then welding it back up would be a nice look.
ideas and pics please. :d

use a brother strap. nice even pull, no scratched paint, and no unsightly 'scene towing strap' dangling from your bumper lol
my brother hasnt got a strap....kidding.
what is one by the way?
Once the winch takes up the slack will the strap not force the bumper up.
David.
Use some shackles if you want to remove a strap.

i think it would if i found the correct thing.

they'd still do damage if i was in a rush.
im thinking about using a wheel strap... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wheel-Bridging-Link-Strap-Trailer-Tie-Soft-Version-for-Alloy-Wheels-20-SM02-/110959470063?pt=UK_Trailers_Transporters_Parts&hash=item19d5b325ef
slide it through the hook with no damage and then connect the winch hook to that. unsure if it would take the strain.
brother strap:

designed to be looped round the axle/bottom arms, and clipped back onto itself, then winch from the central eye, to give a safe even pull, with no damage to bodywork etc.

the webbing on ratchet straps is rated to 5 tonnes, wheel straps are made to be at least equal to the ratchet straps, so that will be ample for what you want. tbh i think it will be better than a brother strap for what you need
the brother strap is quite cool. would give more of an even pull, for the price difference though its not worth it for what i need, like you say.
cheers lew.
i cant get out once its on there
I have the same problem, i just climb through the boot, not ideal!!
I've got the tow strap on of the tie bar bracket bolts, and fold it up under the bumper when not in use
Plus a thousand scene points

Place the towstrap on top of the tow hook, put a large bolt through it (M10 or M12 can't remember), use a large washer on the underside (one from a tiebar is perfect) and tighten it up on the original hook
1000 points you say?

I started a thread for the exact ame thing a couple of months back, the search function is handy.
Here's a link (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?189949-TRS-Tow-Loop-Fitting/page3)
I didnt clamp mine through the original eye so it can still be used.
