I need to know what terminals are pos/neg on my ignition coil.

I have this coil fitted

Any one know or know how to find out?
cheers.

Am i right in thinking that the positive is the terminals that are linked together and has a wire that goes to terminal 3 of the ignition module.

The negative is the teminal that has a wire that goes to terminal 1 of the inition module.

is there anything in the workshop manual about testing or measuring resistances that would help you work it out?

It looks like a standard 1.2/1.3/1/4 carb one. If it is, remind me and I'll look tomorrow on my 1.4

According to haynes the primary winding resistance is 0.43 or 0.7 ohms and the secondary is 5000 ohms or 6900 to 8500 ohms depending on if its an ac delco or bosch coil.

The primary is between terminals 1 and 15 and the secondary is between terminal 4 (ht lead) and 1 (primary negative terminal)

Im guessing ill be able to find the neg by going between each terminal of the primary winding and the HT lead terminal until I get a reading between 5 and 8Kohm. I can find the primary winding by going between the terminals until i get a reading between 0.4 and 0.7 ohms.

The wiring diagram says that the neg (term 1)is the brown and the pos is the red (term 15). if anyone has the coil plugged in and can let me know which is which would be great.

this info is for the e16se not sure if they are all the same

term 1 would look like the neutral then going by the resistances, as the spark earths on the block, 1+earth would be the same potential as the neutral.

but you would be wise to have someone check a fitted setup and give you the correct pin outs.
