hi

opinions based on facts about hi-spec brakes

was thinking of a 280mm 4 pot set

or those AP ones that reyland do/did, 300mm but saw them under a set of allesio 2 wheels before?

just think its a better mod than the 288v6 set up

I'd go for AP if you can get hold of a set.

I would go with wilwoods can't go wrong win them,hi spec are too overly priced

As Connor said About the ap brakes

i have some brembos but engineers n welders seem reluctant to help me make them fit or even make a bracket

they were mated to a Honda integra 2003 DC5 which came with 300mm discs but sure hey could suit the 288 V6 discs or maybe even the 4stud corsa C discs?

also worried wilwoods n hispecs dont have dust seals?

I found some Brembo calipers for good money last year & then looked around for what disks could be used; if you're making brackets & sourcing disks then try to work out how big you can go.

Fairly sure you can get 308's inside a 16" rim as I'm on 337's from an Insignia [17s], but not the 2 piece type.

Sometimes asking an engineer to design AND make something can be off putting; try to get the calipers & disks, then start putting them on a detached steering knuckle and trial fitting the wheel. I made a template from this out of ally box & just handed it over to my machinist to mill down in billet. Often it's better not to even complicate the situation by telling them the function.

It can take a fair amount of work taking metal off wheel / calipers when going for extremes, but it's worth it I think.

cool

ill have to see how they measure up

my brembos have boly holes already but can a welder grind these off to ake a new set of holes or can they even be made bigger fot a relocation?

As Connor said About the ap brakes

Tell that to the bloke at work who had catastrophic component failure of wilwood parts which wilwood admitted but refused to do anything about the damage due to them being "race parts" used on the road

The reyland ones are spot on although they will not fit behind speedlines

im not doubting u but there was deff a set on a cavalier gsi red with white speedlines and was on the front cover of total vauxhall.....ill try find it but i do remember no reference to facts about tgeb wheels in tech spec.....maybe the callipers had been modified

I ran 308mm discs under 16" rims, tons of space..... saying that they were TD wheels and had an offset of about 20ish lol

lo-spec tend to be somewhat random in their quality :(

I had hi specs on my nova turbo, must say I thought they were great. Got them off a mate that had them on an xe corsa.

Mine are 308mm disks and I have spacers on my compomotives, I tried a set of speedlines and they would not clear the calipers. Maybe the cav ones are different to a nova? I want to put a set of comp th2's on mine as I love them wheels but I think I will have to have a custom set made to clear calipers.

Only pic I have but if you look at the top of the caliper there is about 5mm clearance.

I run Hi-Spec callipers front & rear & there ok.
They do have dust seals.
I think if I were to build another I would go Wilwood though. Purely for the heritage & there a worldwide company rather than I manufacturer in a shed in uk somewhere.

I run Wilwoods and mine have dust seal. Was a pain sorting disc for them, as they sit very far back when bolted on. But an hour with a brake book and i had discs.

Work great, stop really well, You need special hoses tho as the brake line fitting is a US imperial fitting. RD changed me £20 for to front hoses, so not bad.

Sorry for the random thread hi jack but was just wondering how the reyland calipers fasten to the nova ie did they come with a mounting bracket or do they just bolt straight on?

Thanks J

I had reylands/300+ discs behind allesios on a6vxl all they require is a 5mm spacer. Funny thing is though I changed them to 16" flat spoke mo's and didn't need any spacers whatsoever and had approx 10mm clearance between the caliper and inside of the spoke. Pics are in my thread for reference.

Those reyland branded caliper look like Brembo F40s same as mine; and they're pretty wide. I decided on taking material from the caliper & wheel rather than changing the wheel offset. They don't bolt straight on, you'll need brackets to do that on nova knuckles.

reyland calipers are ap from the mg tf and can be bought for nothing on ebay

Hmm tough to say for sure but the design is very similar; if £119 is nothing for MGF ones, I better not say how much mine were!

mg tf are definatley the ones reyland use, exact same thing just with the mg logo machined off and reyland put on

Ahh I see maybe they are using a smaller disk? Mine are the kit that reyland used to do. Ap calipers and two piece disk

Nope it's the full 308 mm reyland discs 2 piece type like you say it should be at national weekend this year again, he also uses 15 in comps and its a certain well known yellow nova

I don't have pics with the brakes fitted its Phil loft houses car

He had to shave the calliper a fair bit to get them to fit and there's a fag paper between calliper and rim think he also has about a 5mm spacer on them as well but not sure on that. Only photo I have on my photo bucket is years old proper back in the day stuff lol

http://i293.photo-bucket.com/albums/mm71/richardmee/scan0008-1.jpg

There are some more recent ones of it on the national weekend thread from 2 or 3 years ago with it on comps but brakes were fitted after that don't think many will have seen them as it hasn't been on road this year and he fitted em last winter
