Is anyone running a wr on there e16? I use mine everyday and its revving at about 3500 rpm at 80mph? It's only for a few miles but I'm really not looking forward to attending the summers shows and having to drive there at 60mph to get decent fuel economy, would a wr make the car boring to drive? Would the revs be noticeably different? I know there are calculators to work this out but I'm not good with stuff like that

Thanks in advance

WR with 3.74 diff = Boring

Had it on my silver gsi and hated it so watch what final ratio is in the box you get

3.74 is standard in the CR F13 duno what the WR diff is tho

For comparison, 4th on a WR box is the same as 5th on a CR box

yeah it depends on what the final drive is, reguardless of whether its a wr or not. Im sure youll be loosing out on acceleration though, using a wr. A 4.18 or 4.53 will be really high up the revs at cruising speeds, probably a ton top speed..
A 3.74 or 3.55 is best for final drive. Will have higher top speed, much lower in the revs at motorway speeds.
Best bet is an f13cr or f15cr 3.74 or 3.55.

3.5k rpm @ 80 doesnt sound too bad tbh.

Cheers Al don't mind loosing a bit of acceleration but can't be doing with boring

I'm sure I'm on a F13cr just does my head in how it always feels like it needs another gear

You could try putting a WR 5th gear in the CR box, hell of a jump tho lol

I don't know about small block boxes, but I had this problem on my cav, so i put a F18 5th gear into my F20, results are just over 2k Revs at 70

I'm sure Greg did that also and had good results

I would to it again anyday, motorway driving is soo much better now

thats not how it works - wr gearboxes can have the same final drive/5th gear as cr boxes. Some times shorter.
My understanding of it is its the final drive figure alone/only; 3.55(turns of gear):1(turn of the wheel) and 3.74:1 ; these are the longest ratio usually found in small block gearboxes. Sit lower in the revs cruising in 5th.
4.18 is the shortest (turns more times to one turn of the wheel) so youll sit higher up the revs cruising, 5th.

from my research, the f13wr boxes have a 0.76:1 5th gear and the f13cr has a 0.86:1 5th gear. this would help slightly at 80mph.

my plans when i had my red gte was to put the 4.18 final drive in a f13 with the 0.76 wr 5th gear to try get the 5th gear revs down more as the final drive would have increased them.

Im not sure how you work that out, The F13CR uses one of the longest diff's yes BUT uses much shorter gear ratios

The F13WR uses shorter Diff Ratios and longer gear ratios to the CR box

So by using swapping thr CR 5th gear of 0.89 to the WR 5th gear of 0.71 you are making 5th longer

simple terms

with a tyre size of 195/40/16 ( speedlines innit lol )
F13CR 3.74 final drive with 5th gear of 0.89 @ 3500rpm = 69mph
F13CR 3.74 final drive with 5th gear of 0.71 @ 3500rpm =87mph

so bang in a wr 5th in a cr box makes a longer 5th, at 6000rpm it should see 150 if the engine has enough torque to pull it,

i fitted a wr in mine a couple of years ago.

to be honest, i was getting annoyed with changing gear all the time, but i have kept my cr cluster in the loft, just in case.....

in my cr box, 3000rpm was at about 60mph.. in my wr box its around 75. and the engine will pull it all day long.

i kept the 3.74 diff, and still accelerated pretty quick thru the gears.

the original injection settings for the e16se meant that at 75mph, it would do something daft like about 45mpg, this was to keep europe happy & was used in their marketing.. even though it gave a flat spot in the power curve....
this relates to about 3800rpm.. which in a wr puts you around 90mph....
not that i know anything about economy at 90 odd mph, but on a long, fast run to poole the other summer, it did appear to run on fresh air......lol

i think its the mixing and matching cr and wr gears thats throwing me off a bit..
As the boxes come standard, final drives seem to dictate the cruising/top speeds.
