both my 1300 nova and my old mk2 astra 1300 have had new rotor arms put on but they both look knackered after 3000 miles. My one wouldnt start recently and when i removed the cap the contacts on the rotor arm had actually melted off!

This had happened on my mates one before but didnt know why. It looks like there is oil leaking in there from the dizzy, is it just a seal i'd need to replace?

I had that for a while when I was at uni, changed the dizzy cap and leads and it stopped.... No real explanation as to why but thats what I did to remedy the issue.

Hmm, because ive already changed all of that! I thought maybe there was a seal somewhere that had gone?

what kind of plugs have you got fitted?
have you changed any of the wiring or coil polarity?

Ngk's, ive checked that they are the right ones and the gap is fine.
I haven't touched anything else tbh.

Had this with my Mk2 Goof. Turned out it was excessive play in the actual dizzy causing it to jump about a bit. Might be worth trying a new dizzy?

you might be right bear, i had a similar issue with an older nova, kept chewing rotor arms, there was a tad bit of play in the shaft of it. my guess is the arm would tumble a little bit now and then, wreck itself after a while. went thru 2 in the year i had it. one of them was in about 8 pieces
