What info do I have to put on the v5 to declare my XE?? It was a 1.4
I have already put in the;
Date of change
Cylinder capacity
Engine number
Fuel type.
Do I need to fill anything else in? Such as tax class and things?
Thanks
Nope thats it, you only really need to do CC and engine number, they will work out the tax class and the tax code for it, but for the sake of your own sanity, visit your nearest office rather than posting it directly to swansea!

But if I just take it in to my nearest dvla they sort it there and then? Does the car need to go aswel? Cause that's just hassle cause it aint running yet haha
As per conza's reply, usually they can ask you a few questions about it there and then, and in theory theyre supposed to ask for an engineers report, but most dont deal with this kind of thing very often so either dont know, or forget, nine out of ten times you'll get lucky, they will stamp it, ask for the extra in tax (if its currently taxed) and send of the paperwork done!
If you send it all off via post, they will just return it with no explanation as to why theyve not done the change, and expect you to know automatically what youve done wrong, and try again!
Far easier and stress free to go into the local office, even if it involves a drive!
And no, they dont come out and check the car, so it doesnt need to go with you, you cant take that into the office lol

No you don't need to take the car and you can buy tax there and then if you need it rather than waiting for the deal to long it out sending it back. Although when I did mine I have to say they were pretty sharp was back in less than 4 weeks!

I sent my mum to do it as her office was round the corner so they may have been a bit more user friendly with her

Just been to my local dvla office and they have asked for the reg number of the car which the engine came out of. I don't have this and am struggling to get hold of it any ideas what I can do?
Tell them you don't know as you bought it either a) as a separate unit from a breakers yard or b) its a fresh recon from the dealer.
Mind you, if you go back you'll probably get someone different behind the counter who will just approve the changes without batting an eyelid. lol

You dont need an engineers report or the reg number from the car the engine was taken from, thats just the person at the office not knowing how to do they`re job. Ive registered 5 now since these changes came out without bother. All i do is write a receit out for the new engine stating cc and engine number and send it off to swansea.
If you go back into your local office have the page from the direct.gov website to show them that clearly says you need one of-
Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)
DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:
a receipt for the replacement engine
written evidence from the manufacturer
an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle.
