Hi iv got a 1.6 8 v from a late gsi what is the best way to go about tuning it. I am rebuilding it so while it's in bits makes sence to give it a
Bit more power. I am aiming for 125 bhp+

Headwork, cam, change of induction, over size pistons, exhaust, turbo.... How far do you want to go and what is your budget

125?

Change cam and add twin 40's

Would like to keep it na was thinking of a cam and head work what would be the best cam to go for. What gain would I get from biger pistons and a rough cost. The block was slightly pitted on top so that has been decked. Money not to much of a problem it's going to be done over time. Don't want to spend silly money

mines running around 150, but its had a small fortune spent on it, Blisten head with further head work, big valves, cam, twin 40's, bigger pistons, lightened and blanced crank, lightened fly wheel etc etc etc... i don't even know half the stuff as i can't read some of the engine builders hand writing on my receipt lol

Kent ast2 cam, light head fettle, megasquirt and that's your 125.

Do I need a full cam kit valve springs and followers or can I just use a cam

A long as they are in good order, just reuse the springs and followers.

Depends how much abuse you want to give it,

Personally I'd rather not have tired soft valve springs on an engine I'm going to give abuse too

You cant fit an AST2 with injection, it will run like a right pile of crap. Kent do some injection friendly cam profiles, check their website.

Hence the megasquirt ;) their injection profile cams are very nancy.

Bolt on a 16v head with a powerbox and decent exaust and theres 130bhp. Cheapest power as well

well, it will fit, but you will have some fun getting all the timing belt bits to fit & then the extra sensors for the efi etc.
